If there is an existing thread/page that explains this, please just point me that way, but how are helper applications set? For instance, I wanted to have .DOC links open MS Word as a separate window (not inline as it would in IE). I wanted to know how to do this so I can propagate the idea to other programs such as Excel and so on. Does this involve MIME stuff? I'm a doofus when it comes to understanding those things (shortcut links I got, MIME I'm fuzzy).
Thanks. I see that it is in reference to RealOne Player, so I figure this is to be considered as a pattern or template for creating "helper" app configurations. But what would the various MIME types be? I see things on the suggest web page as "audio/x-pn-realaudio, audio/x-realaudio, application/vnd.rn-realmedia". Where do I get info for things like MS Word documents or Excel? I'm using Windows 2000 and see no reference to MIME types in Tools > Folder Options > File Types.
I put this line in pref.js: user_pref("browser.helperApps.neverAsk.openFile", "application/msword");
(found the type using File Type Manager)
I already had these lines in pref.js from the failed attempt to get RealPlayer to work from K-Meleon:
user_pref("kmeleon.general.CloseDownloadDialog", true);
user_pref("kmeleon.general.saveDir", "C:\\temp\\");
When I click on a link to a Word document, it automatically downloads the file and wants to save it if Stardownloader is disabled or Stardownloader does it automatically. I just want it to open from the server in Word without any dialog.
OK, it works now that I have taken the Stardownloader plugin out of the plugins folder. I like Stardownloader and so I don't want to remove it. Is this an issue that is better taken up with the developer of Stardownloader?
