K-Meleon Web Browser Forum
When I installed K-meleon I selected K-Meleon as by default Browser. However, even tho K-meleon is up and running when I download, Internet explorer comes up and takes over. How do I eliminate Microsoft Internet explorer from coming up. I did check the box that indicates that Internet explorer is to check to see if it is the selected browser. Any help to eliminate Internet explorer from operating will be appreciated. lkelley@union-tel.com
IE 5.0 has the following:
Tools - Internet Options - Programs
and then uncheck the option "Internet Explorer should see whether it is the default browser"
This may also be accessible from Control Panel - Internet Options...
if you want to eliminate internet explorer radically (as i did some time ago
) you should use ieradicator ( http://www.98lite.net/ieradicator.html )
it really works! insane speed and stability!
p.s. only Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium and Windows 2000(sr1) are allowed... it doesn't work on windows xp
You also might try the freeware utility ROM (Revenge of Mozilla). It rips out IE and the html desktop, replacing it with the much sleeker Win95 desktop. It also surgically removes active-X, windows update, and a few other unethical additions, IIRC. This makes Win98 a much better host for KM. <g>
A few caveats: ROM tears a lot of IE-related stuff out, so make sure you know what you're doing. It supports Win98 only, it has to be applied over a fresh os installation, and its author no longer supports it. Hmm, quite a testimonial ...
