Media Player video embedded in web page

When I try to watch videos from a web page that has Windows Media Player video embedded in it, it won't play. I guess it must be some ActiveX thing. But what should I do, that I could make it work? If it goes like in this link, what plugin should I install? With IE video plays well.

The ActiveX plugin is included and can be enabled in the version 0.9.13,
and also in its updates at the page for unofficial versions.
It is not yet included in K-Meleon 1.0 .

With k-m the video also plays.

Hao has or had a 1.0 variant that has the plugin.

IMHO - You should be able to get it working without big problem.

Use the version of the FFox that uses the same GRE as the k-m that You want to teach active-x ;-)

Fred,

gemacht.
Ich habe schon das plugin für 1.0 in meinem 0.9 update2
verwendet. Es geht dort. Es ist die Version für Firefox 1.5 x.

Thank You very much, Rapido.

I unzipped the archive ("mozactivex15.xpi") to K-Meleon folders as told in http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/kmeleon.html and restarted K-meleon, but videos still does not play.

Like with this clip : ...

http://nettitv.mtv3.fi/maksuttomat/index.shtml/maksuttomat/subtv/bigbrother?81753#81753

... I still get error message "The specified stream type is not recognized. (Error=C00D07E2). Cannot open. Please verify that the path and filename are correct and try again. (Error=C00D07E2)".

Where I can find file "npdefpluginpro.dll" and to where I should copy it?

My K-meleon version is 1.0 and OS is Windows XP Pro with SP2.

Just two quick qustions. 1. Are you an registred member of that site? 2. Do you have the codecs installed needed to see thoose clips? If that is so I can't see any problems why you shouldn't be able to see the clips, but if you don't have theese things there will be some problems.

OK, I unzipped "npdefpluginpro.dll" to Plugins-folder and restarted K-meleon, still same error message occurs.

Yes, the link I gave is for a free video clip (Finland´s "Big Brother" TV-program´s second season starting in September ). All BB clips at this site are free at this very moment. And as I said, those Windows Media clips play fine in Internet Explorer (version 6.0, haven´t bother to update it because I don´t use it anyway).

I am not very expert in these things... smiling smiley My current Windows Media Player is the latest version 10. I also have newest versions of "ffdshow" codec pack and Flash installed, if that´s any help.

Take care to have the plugin in the folder plugins,
not kplugins.
Having installed the files of the plugin, you should
close the browser and open the folder "components"
in the main K-Meleon folder.
Create a backup copy of of "components"
before doing that, giving the backup a different
name.
In "components" you have to delete the two files
compreg.dat and xpti.dat., and then
restart the browser. The two files will then
be recreated.
To check, if the plugin generally works,
try to load a radio link, as the following one:

http://cache.yacast.fr/V4/europe1/europe1.asx

If this works, the plugin basically is reacting.
It may still not load certain streams, but this
has then other reasons, as codecs that are not found.
It could also be that you would have to increase
the admitted security number in activex.js, as
it is described in the text of activex.js, if you open
this file in notepad, but do not allow a high number,
for security reasons. Only media streams should
be enabled to load.

Hey Fred a funny thing happend when I clicked at the link you set as an example it opened Winamp and played perfectly in that player. I think that this is strange since I've got mediaplayer as default player for streams and clips.

@Steve - Fred's instructions are always excellent, and I don't know where he finds the patience. Nonetheless, there is a registry hack that worked for me - and basically I used it because I do get lost in trying to step through these installations AND I am extraordinarily lazy.

Click Start button- then Run- then type in regedit
When the program comes up manuever down the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList
When you get there, and click on the "+" sign, there should be a list of browsers or web related software (like AOL.exe). If you use firefox, you will see it listed also.
With the word ShimInclusionList highlighted, click on Edit in the Menu and then New and then click on the Word Key. Type in K-Meleon.exe
Go to something like cnn.com and click on one of the video clips. It will whizz and bang about and eventually you will be greeted with a Warning that your Media Player is not the most recent. Pay no attention, just click on the Continue to Video button and Media Player will come up. It won't have some of the neat stuff, but it does play.

As I said this is the lazy man's shortcut, but it should work.

Thanks guys !

I was definitely going to follow Fred´s instructions, but I had (and still have) a large file downloading by K-Meleon at fairly low speed, so I couldn´t close browser for a while. So I tried Terry´s tweak.Gee, it works! Both CNN clips and "Finnish Big Brother" videos I mentioned above play fine.

Great forum and great browser. I really like the speed and light-weightness of K-Meleon, now more than ever. winking smiley

Player is not the most recent. Pay no attention
this Windows bug affects most modern Mozilla browsers.
Gemal.dk says that the below fix will improve to
Media player 9.0 ;-) (IMHO maybe more players - i added line for k-m)

from http://gemal.dk/blog/2003/08/07/use_windows_media_player_9_in_mozilla/

make a reg file e. g. named wmp9.reg & paste the lines below inside.
At my system i only had to click the resulting file.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList\mozilla.exe]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList\MozillaFirebird.exe]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList\K-Meleon.exe]

I also had to do the following (which was also mentioned on gemal.dk )

Close WMP.
Open Windows Explorer.
Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Media\9.0
Delete all files in this directory.
Restart WMP.
