Leave it away. I always get confused when I want to reach the homepage, coz here it's written without dash....

I think you should change the name altogether -- think of a better one.

It might be nice not to have to reach for the dash every time I say something nice about my favorite browser ;-)

Actually I'm always amazed at some of the suggestions that crop up from time to time: change the logo, change the name. Boredom certainly does get people thinking.

As for the hyphenated K-Meleon name, I like it! It's distinct, and certainly doesn't pander to other boring browser naming conventions.

Drop the dash. I consistently forget and try to go to k-meleon.org instead of kmeleon.org

No real need for it, anyone that knows will not think it a KDE app once they look around a little will they? smiling smiley

Opps, perhaps noone here knows what I even mean by KDE; .. that is ok .. I use winderz too, got to, hence why I would love to see kmeleon too ..

Posting a note about this to the embedding group as well as I would really love to hear more about where kmeleon is and when we will see another release. Will scour the forum here for hints too

Yes. I thot it was some brazilian name until I had it installed and realized that the dragon was really a chameleon. Or something like that. I could be totally off base about everything. Good browser tho.

A name change might be nice. Something like "Newt" or "Newtzilla" ...small, fast, and powerful.

Yeah. "Newtzilla" that's the browser for me. ; )

<Remove the dash.. that way it sounds more like "chameleon" >

Naah. Leave it in. "KMeleon" would be prnounced "kuh meal eon" or simply "meleon" if the K were silent. Hmmm... maybe its me who should be silent.

On deeper pondering, I find that I rather like the dash. It adds a little dash of spice...oooh, god will forgive me the pun, but no one else will... It has something to do with the unique nature of My Favorite Browser. Or maybe I'm just getting overly sentimental. Had I met it under a different name, I'm sure i'd be surfing all the same.
However, I would like to observe that name changes often reflect a hubristic attitude, and also tend to be confusing. Like, duh, I heard about this great browser called... duh, what was it?
May Atropos apply her scissors to this thread ;-)

What's the point here? I followed this long discussion and it sounds quite like a nonsense. First, what's wrong with the dash (actually it is hyphen; dashes are longer and there are two kinds of them: m-dash - the longest one - and n-dash - a bit shorter than m-dash).

The hyphen gives IMHO K-Meleon a sense of originality and distinctness. And K-Meleon also sounds good. What some of you are talking about here is mainstream - why not then call it the Super Browser, the Hyper Browser or the Mega-Kill-O-Zap Browser? I understand that such names are definitely turning on (or should I say the American style?). Except that there are already thousands of such software names and I have usually found those mega-hyper-pieces of software to be quite crappy if not unusable. Maybe "Opera" is a wrong name, too ? (boring, quite uncommon, something classic...)

So, I think, K-Meleon is a very good name and you should not change it by any means.

Oh well, this discussion is a bit of a distraction from the other stuff (which I won't go into, most people are aware of it).
But still, this is all just geeky obssesion really. I mean, changing the name makes it more "sexy". Those people need to get out more ;-)

What's in a name?...

A rose by any other name...

pk. maybe cause I'm a manager and maybe cause I just like K as a browser I've gotta put my two cents in...

If there has to be a change ( which I am not at all certain of...) why not put an A in the place of the 'hyphen' so you get:

Kameleon
or Kemeleon

Personally I like Komodo! but, heh...

Whatever... :-)

"Personally I like Komodo! but, heh..."

Unfortunately (fortunately for some though), there is already a Mozilla related project called Komodo:

You never know, it might be a project right up your own alley.

Similar to what I'm looking for but I want something even more basic...

I'm putting together a project called Chinchilla on mozdev to extend XRE to work as a platform...

@#$% I royally messed that up... oh well

But, ya...

After talking about K-Meleon to other developers I've discovered that most people ask me how to pronounce it. I've heard K-"mellon" more than once...

another Idea I had was:

K-Million

Although I'm not sure I figured this was a brainstorm and I might as well throw it out and see what happens...

Kemeleon is the best dirivitive I've seen...

But the name is probably gonna need to be changed because there is 4 different moz-related project I've seen bearing some dirivitive of "Chemeleon".

That's my thoughts for today...

Yours Truly.
