What does the layers plugin actually do?? I have a button bar here with one button, is this something like tabbed browsing?
Yes, it is just like tabbed browsing. You can use the Layers menu to start new tabs. Unfortunately, the tab options didn't end up in the context menus in the current beta. You can add those in. I'll have to dig up the URL to get the info. for how to do that.
after looking closer at the default menus.cfg that comes with the last beta, it looks like the menu entry for 'open in new/bg layer' was added to every link popup *except* for plain text links in a non-frames page (shrug)... so if you copy it from any of the others and add it to that popup definition (entitled simply LinkPopup) it will work... these are the lines to add:
%ifplugin layers
layers(OpenLink, Open in New Layer)
layers(OpenLinkBg, Open in Background Layer)
