Why are the authors of kmeleon "scared" about bringing out a new kmeleon? So what if it has some bugs? There can never be a perfect browser! Anyway it is free so I cannot understand why this apprehension. You won't get sued if there are some bugs in it.

You want a new version?

Want it badly?

The source is there, in the CVS tree. Build it, distribute it (spare web space is easy to find. contact me: search for my name in google, if you badly lack one).

It would be an non-official build, of course. But I expect it to generate tons of bug reports, as it will expose kmeleon to a larger target audience.

It will probably be more stable than 0.6, because of the underlying mozilla code.

Aaaahhhh, Frankenzilla!
Seriously???, I don't think they're "afraid" to expose a new release; it's just taking them a long time to save up enough for all the cigars. ;-)
Hey, it's only a coupla months til my birthday, maybe... LOL
Even Christmas would be OK. grinning smiley
And I don't care at all about giftwrapping... heck, I wouldn't even bother with all this anticipation and drooling if some twerps weren't always making such a fuss here ;-)

I still remember them saying, "two more major bugs and then a release." That was MONTHS ago and these bugs have been resolved if I am not mistaken. Maybe the KM dev guys are going to surprise us with not a 0.7 release, but maybe a full-blown KM 1.0. It's the least we should expect given all of the development that has surely been going on.

All well & good, but these guys are worse about updating their website than I am for mine <g>. Quite simply, the newest information on the home page here is fast approaching the *ONE YEAR* mark; unless you take the time to look at the forum messages, you would seriously believe that the project has been abandoned.

All they need to do is post something at the home page and say what the status is. Otherwise, by the time the next release is out, people may have already abandoned it.

Oooooh, FROST my cake. "take the time to look at the forum messages" and how. If some people took some of the time they spend muddling in the forum and applied it to building their own... like Tzaffir said.
Agh. I'm staying away from here for a month. (Uh-oh, words for lunch)

There's a certain irony about it all, when somebody complains in the forums about "no updates" and the like. The irony is they probably already know what's going on (with the latest beta etc.), so what does it matter really. It's almost as if they are showing concern for the one click wonders out there, who don't want to go past the homepage to find anything out. Usually most people do (and then they complain in the forums). Also the "or else I'm chucking a hissy fit" postings are quite amusing too, if only for the fact that some people seem to feel that if *they* abandon K-Meleon, then the whole project's going to grind to a halt. ;-)
Still I'm with you Arual, you need a break once in a while...

Hey Tzafrir, send me a VS C++ license please, I've tried to build KMeleon with mingw but it fails. Thanks for support.

minKM would actually be a neat project, if there's a gecko embedding package that would lend itself to it... i suppose a lot (most?) of the features would have to be stripped away initially... but it would be interesting to see what developed, keeping as much compatibility between things like macro scripting, plugins, etc, as possible...

probably a very stupid idea. smiling smiley

"minKM would actually be a neat project, if there's a gecko embedding package that would lend itself to it"

Isn't the Vis Studio requirement inherited from mozilla, or is it just easier to compile with Vis Studio?

> Isn't the Vis Studio requirement inherited from mozilla,

Um, very likely NOT, since mozilla is fully portable code.
It's much more likely to do with KM's windows specific UI (into which gecko is embedded).

In short, the KM coders have opted to code MS VC specific code.

From mozilla.org:

"This document is a guide to building Mozilla on Windows platforms. The Windows build uses a UNIX emulator for Windows, cygwin, to control the build process, and command line tools from Microsoft's Visual C++ to build its source files."

From this page:

http://mozilla.org/build/win32.html

And I had asked:

"Isn't the Vis Studio requirement inherited from mozilla, or is it just easier to compile with Vis Studio?"
