Problem with GUL
Posted by: Timoch
Date: September 24, 2002 02:56PM

I've been using GUL with great success with km .6 (win98 SE) for about a year, but this morning I experienced a serious problem. I clicked on GUL in my favorites folder but the program didn't open, but instead I got a dialog box in German that I couldn't understand. The only thing that it would let me do in click ok. I tried to open it twice with the same result. I rebooted my puter and tried to open Gul. It opened, but the pages were blank. I opened the Opera folder and all the sub folders appeared, but unfortunetely the sub folders were empty. In retrospect the dialog box that I okayed contained a word something like "erazen" which must mean erase all your files fool.
The GUL download site is useless for help. I have had absolutely no indications or warnings until this time. I don't know if there is anything that I can do, I am desperate.

What's GUL?

Gul is a booklist manager. See

I just installed km 6.5, and it seems that I might not need gul. But the question is, how or where do I install the Opera hotlist so that the plugin can utilize it?

Timoch,

The beta should prompt you for the location of your hotlist when you start it for the first time. Did you make sure that the Hotlist plugin was enabled on install?

I enabled the Opera and IE hotlist plugins. The IE shows up. I have long since uninstalled all vestiges of Opera files, but I have the hot list with the .gul extension, but GUL will allow me to export it with the .adr (opera hotlist extension). My question is: to which folder do I export the file.

Timoch,

K-Meleon doesn't care where the file is located as long as you can point to it.

I uninstalled km 6.5, last incarnation, and reinstalled it. During setup, I unchecked the Netscape plug in, but left everything as is. I set up the Opera plugin, but didn't have the .adr file available. When I tried to start KM, I got the following error message:

I tried uninstalling and installing it again, and the same thing happens. It worked the first time that I installed it. Any suggestions.

In order to start with a clean slate, I unstalled km .65, latest incarnation, without saving profiles, then reinstalled it. During setup, I inchecked the netscape bookmarks. I let the setup place the opera adr, but I don't have a copy of the .adr file converted from gul.
Now when I try to start km, I get the following error message:

K-MELEON caused an invalid page fault in
module MSVCRT.DLL at 0167:7800b936.

I uninstalled and reinstalled again, but still there is a problem. Km worked the first time that I installed after after uninstalling v.60. Any suggestions.

another Q: I saved the plugins and .js file from the .6 install to another directory. I had been keeping up with the embellishments that have been posted here for the past year. Are there are there any of these that I can reuse in .65

Sorry about the double post, IE doesn't seem to refresh very well

invalid page fault in MSVCRT.DLL

timoch,

I have had exactly the same problem.

I installed km .65 on a clean machine running WinME. I initially got the "invalid page fault in MSVCRT.DLL". I then installed the latest MS libraries (the link was in another forum post). It still didnt help. Finally, I uninstalled and re-installed km .65 and it now works fine.

The next machine I installed it was a PC running Win98SE (once again, it was "clean" with no previous km installation). Once again, same problem with "invalid page fault in MSVCRT.DLL".

I have tried everything I can think of to fix this on the Win98SE PC but still get this problem. I also shut down the loader (because I was getting the error immediately after booting up windows) but this still made no difference - I get the error as soon as I start km .65. I have given up on this until .7 is out.

(Like many here, I have been using km since v .5 - it seems so long ago! - but have recently switched to Mozilla. K-m .65 looks great, and is blisteringly fast, so if I can get .65 going on my Win98SE PC, I will be definitely switching back)

Timoch,

We have a doc that explains converting files from 0.6 to 0.7. Once we have that finished up, we'll post that out.

To follow what I had previously posted, and what Rhys had posted, I tried five clean reinstalls on my win98se machine. I still cannot get .65 to work. I downloaded the latest msvcrt.cll from MS, did a registry clean with jv16 powertools. On time I got the km screen to open by a combination of clicks, and it opened with nothing on the menues and froze my puter. I couldn't shut down the puter even with the three finger salute, so I turned it off, then the video wouldn't work. It took two more reboots to get it right. I uninstalled .65 and installed .6 and am going to leave it that way untill I start reading raving comments about .7 or .8.

I had a problem using K-Meleon on a fresh install of win98se, but after I installed Norton SystemWorks and let it clean up all of windows 'dufualt problems', it worked fine.

I have not been able to reproduce the error by putting the errors back into windows. I don't have enough free time to create another clean install to check for the exact error.
