is K-meleo Internet Explorer based or fully independent?

i'm want to get loose of this IE thing... wanna install pocket K-meleon on my USB stick but need to know if he is independent first...

K-Meleon is and has always been totally independent of Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

K-Meleon is based, as Firefox and other browsers, on Mozilla and GRE (Gecko Runtime Environment).

As Eneitz says: k-meleon ships his own rendering engine based on Mozilla GRE.

The heart of IE is a different rendering engine.
k-m relies on some system dll that is all.
