It is a windows registry problem. A broken registry key?
It was a common question in the time when win98 was much used.
As far as I remember the easiest solution was to install another browser ;-)
Try install SeaMonkey or IE and set it to default browser.
( I know You use Firefox and K-Meleon the old attemp was based on installing a totally differnt browser so that the registry key was fixed/rewritten by windows install mechanism).
Next You try to set K-Meleon to default browser via the menue option.
( this step tries to write into the just generated key and reset it to k-m ).
AFAIK ndebord suggested that.
Sometimes You need to fix the registry key by editing by hand or with a program - no idea how that is done.
Setting browser as default can be (at times) a pesky exercise.
I've found "Setbrowser" a handy free tool:
http://www.pc-tools.net/win32/setbrowser/
The program will modify the required registry settings.
As Guenter said. If the registry key is incorrect, you may be able to reset it by telling it about another browser. Another way to go is to use something like RegCleaner to delete old registry settings that are in conflict.
