beowulf,
You are not missing anything.

An exe and a few new kplugin versions running as alternative in an 1.1 install.
A bugs and new features test-bed no more no less.

+ ) Fast, true tabs, better crash recoverey ... (stable already!)
- ) Much brocken. Not yet fit for every day use sad smiley

AFAIK It is called 1.5 because true tabs are scheduled for 1.5 smiling smiley
The version number is a jest - when someone asked about true tabs Dorians said with 1.5 (which means to me = way in the future but really planed). It is the tabbed exe and plugin that will eventually replace the layered version that we use now.

Since version jumps from 1.1 to 1.5 we will probably see some GRE and macro impovements updates before the 1.5 exe is ready for alpha and beta testing and use.

K-Meleon 1.5 prototype supports GRE 1.8 (and early 1.9) like other K-Meleon1.x.
Cairo is part of GRE 1.9a2+ SeaMonkey 2.x.

There are two versions ( 9x and other / reason probably unicode ).
AFAIunderstand communication public test comes when broken parts are fixed.
We will see.

I have no knowledge of any plans to use toolkit based versions of SeaMonkey soon.

The old Firefox based K-Meleon 0.8 builds of MonkeeSage did not have much more FF extension support than Mozilla suite based K-Meleon 0.8. So I do not expect much improvement. But this expectation might be wrong.

Toolkit for SeaMonkey is with SeaMonkey 2.x. So the improved extension support is part of that. SeaMonkey 2.x is based on Cairo and that is not supported by Windows 9.x. Toolkit has e.g. a better xpi installer service that prevents users to install incompatible extensions.

K-Meleon Chrome based on FF structure is possible even now. It does not much improve compatibility of ff extensions. To test it You can use a Firefox chrome out of the box.

AFAIK, K-Meleon 1.5 will still using Gecko 1.8, no Gecko 1.9 will be used at this moment.
