I have no experience with dial up modems. They often used to have problems because of missing
Linux drivers, while netcard ethernet connections using DHCP almost always work out of the box.
Ubuntu may have improved support for dial up because of its growing popularity and its
finances in the background, but I cannot check that , because I only use DHCP at the moment.
Regards
Fred

Hi Zeronero,

Mepis 6.5 should be able to use KPPP (out of the box) for dial-up with your modem. But you will have to install the right driver to a hard disk installation of Mepis. It's not really a difficult job, and you can follow my (Farcry's) instructions in these threads:
1) http://www.mepislovers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6481&highlight=536ep
2) http://www.mepislovers.org/forums/showthread.php?p=45708#post45708

Hope this helps.

Thankyou. am in middle confusing driver configuration process with Ubuntu. Confusing part is all of it - when following tutorial without understanding why & finding way around broken wizards or needing net connection to apt-get wvdial, &c.

Hope driver is precompiled for volks like me whom fell off turnip wagon.
Again thanks ZN
