SPECIAL NEEDS K-Meleon NEEDED PLEASE

Let me explain please. More than 3 years I have tried to find ANY K-Meleon
which does not crash several times a day. I tried this on more than 100
computers. No luck. This only happens on win 2k and xp. KM is fine on win 98.
Unfortunately I do prefer 2k or xp. Have tried clean installs of operating
systems, all the service pack updates and everything else some 120 times over.
And still no luck. I would very much appreciate any and all recommendations.

I do NOT care what version of KM is recommended or how old it is just so it
works. So PLEASE recommend to me all versions I should try. And please provide
as many download links as possible. Please let me repeat I do not care how
old the build is. As far as security risks of older builds I do understand
that. Thanks to everyone for all your input on this very frustrating situation.

I only had crashing problems on the 0'8 and 0'9 versions, and they only crashed rarely. Really, to me the 1'1 is working real fine and without any problem, I don't remember having a crash for months.

I don't know where your problem can be.

I have K-Meleon installed on Windows XP Home Edition SP2, and it works fine. It use to crash very rarely, but mostly due to the fact I have a poor computer. Certain Flash display, or too much Flash display on webpages would slow the browser, and even make it freeze with unresponsiveness, but I turned on Flashblock, then everything is fine. No crashes whatsoever now.

You should be more specific on your crash problem with K-Meleon so we can better help you. Maybe it's your computers that have the problem.

I am running K-M on Windows XP Pro, and it has crashed very little. Nor has it been notably unstable on any other computer I have used it on, mine or anyone else's. I have stuck with it through several versions and several computers of my own. It runs from my USB stick.

I think it is more likely your configuration than anything else, if it crashes everywhere. Change the preferences a little at a time. It is either that or a matter of permissions, and that can be adjusted.

The only operating system related problem I had was a permission bungup - I created a new limited account and ran K-m in it. I found over 800 numbered copies of prefs.js afterward. Hilarious.

Thanx Enaitz, El Guapo, and Arual. It is very rare to use a KM for 15 minutes
without it crashing. The crashes happen when a new website is being opened.
Does not matter if using an old or new window or layer. Following this sentence
is the last message from win 2k after a crash.

The instruction at 0x7171a654 referenced at 0x03df5000, The memory could not be
read

some possibilities:
driver problem
virus or worm

Links to some other sources of ideas and stuff:

some cluefull thoughts

a long thread at Annoyances.org

Searching the Web for:

The Instruction at 0x####### referenced memory at 0x####### The memory could not be read

- brings up many thousands of results

I would not discount the worm/virus theory unless severe security precautions are your habit.

Does any other software, under any circumstances, cause the same kind of error? Have there been other signs of instability?
