K-Meleon's default behavior makes a newly opened tab become the current tab. How do I keep the focus on tab from which i opened the link (i.e. Firefox default behavior.)

You can set Mouse gesture to perform a certain job: e.g. open in background.
Look in Edit > Adanced Preferences > Mouse Gestures.

You can quick set K-emelon to use the same reaction as Firefox. c. FAQS.

- You can do any of that untill You have better answers. I never spend a thought on how to fix the behaviour on a certain reaction I click with right mouse button that opens a menue that lets me chose whether the links opens in background or foreground.
