Can Firefox Extensions Be Easily Adapted for K?

Hey,

I've seen a lot of differant Firefox extensions used for K-Meleon. Not directly, but some of the developers seem to easily port their code to K. I'm just wondering if, one, I'm totally off about this. And two, if it is infact easy to port Firefox extensions to K or even possible, actually. If the case, maybe more popular FF extensions will get ported. Foxmarks?

Thanks in advance,
-Jesse

You will find posts about - how 2 port some extensions in this forum.

K-meleon and Firefox share some code and capabilities - if an extension is only using that it can be used almost imidiately. Else someone has to add work and time. & some code is exclusive to each (Firefox or K-Meleon) = cannot be ported.

Up to now only a handfull of FFox extensions where ported by their original devs sad smiley Special thx to V. Palland, snuz and a handfull of others for designing with intended compatibility to K-Meleon or designing specifically 4 K-Meleon.

What is Foxmarks?

If it uses any of Firefox bookmark code just forget it. The bookmark code is usable with k-meleon but grabs focus from K-meleon bookmarks plugin. So when You have used it K-meleon can not bookmark during the same browser session.

p. s. IMHO You are right with assuming that the original devs of an extension should develop for the whole bunch that could use it. Like: Firefox, SeaMonkey, K-Meleon... Most only develop for Firefox.

Thanks for the detailed answer.

Foxmarks synchronizes bookmarks between all the computers you've got FF installed on, by comparing the local bookmarks to a server.

Something like that is incredibly handy, but I guess unrealistic for K-Meleon as of now. I'm having troubles even importing my Firefox Bookmarks at all.

But I digress.
Thanks a lot for the help, Guenter.

An extension I (and I guess lots of other guys) would like to see ported to K-Meleon is Tab Mix Plus (from http://tmp.garyr.net/). Please, someone out there: endeavor!

TMP cannot be ported to KM, because it's a firefox tabbrowser widget extension.
Wait for tabbed K-Meleon like we do smiling smiley .

Only one wish would be for Dorian ...
Supporting singles folders in one of KM profile dir.(and Program Dir.) for extensions ...
-like FF, TB and SM do.

Type in about:config and search for smoothscroll. If it says disabled, double click on it to enable it. Done! smiling smiley

@ jessecarmack - if it something like roaming for SeaMonkey it could work.

Else try whether SeaMonkey roaming would be the next best thing.
If You know to test such things ( I have no chance to use/test it )?

I think SeaMonkey roaming does work. When the needed chrome, dll and xpt are installed and a kmm macro is avapted and calls it.
