Tried the new version of FavRenAdd placed in MacroLibrary. Worked fine for a couple days.

Again, nothing is saving to Favorites using Favorite > Rename-Add with the exception of my Home page(goolgle.com). Aside from google.com nothing saves to any location in Favorites.

Saving to Favorites from IE6 works as it should. Pages saved via IE6 Fav's also shows up in KM Fav's following restart of KM.

3:20Am right now, headed to bed. When I get up I'm just going to remove everything KM, download/install from a new setup and go from there.

I only have one day before some vacation. My wife will not let me work on this while on vacation. I'll be gone a week.

Tried news.softpedia.com myself. When Add-Rename opened the "Browse for folder" window it did not automatically highlight the Favorite's folder.

When I tried myself to add www.microsoft.com to favorites via Add-Rename, everything worked as it should except it didn't actually save. The following pages aslo do not save via Add-Rename:

I took the first 10 URLs on your list and tried Rename-Add on them. My results do not match your results. Sorry but I do not have an answer yet. I will keep looking. It seems random. I don't know the cause so I don't know what to fix.

I have put a new version of FavRenAdd.kmm in the MacroLibrary. The problem was that the exec statement cannot handle auguments whose length total more that 258. I did not find that out. All the credit belongs to kko.

Guess I should mention that the same continues to occur regarding these same URLs, each and every time. Could check other URLs but would seem kind of pointless, I think.

James, of course it is your decision, but wouldn't your effort and time be better spent on something else? Since our favorite browser is *Windows* only, anyone can easily rename/change any stored favorite by clicking on Start > Favorites > right-click on the favorite you wanna change... at least thats how I do it since day 1 of using K-Meleon
Pls. don't misunderstands me, it is great that you want to do it, and it will be very useful when user adds many-many-many bookmarks to their Favorites at once (thats when I'm bitchin' on lack of this feature in KM too - but it happens maybe once in a blue moon tho).

But given that we have not heard from him in a few days I am not sure
he knows that. This forum is very global and so misunderstandings are

And it being my native language I still seem to accidentally upset

Yes I know that this could all be done another way. I used to forget to go back and move and rename all the items I dumped in favorites. Now I have no excuse for not getting it right the first time. As for where to spend my time, most of the things I read of people asking for are beyond my ability to deliver. This one looked like I could so I gave it a try.

Glad you like the macro. I will have a new version ready sometime. Hope to have a workaround for the "too long line" passing to the js file.

GOOD NEWS No longer should you have problems with long data lines causing a failure.

Today I have updated the FavRenAdd code in the Macro Library with version 2.0 This version has an alternate data stream which is not bound by the 258 character limit of the exec statement. Unless you have an extremely long path to your KM profile, you should not have any failures due to length of favorite title or URL. I think the new version should handle profile paths up to approximately 72 characters. My profile path is typical, I think. It is 56 characters.

How long is your path to your KM profile directory? Please go to EDIT - CONFIGURAIION - PROFILE DIRECTORY and paste that path to a posting here. I just did this thread to favorites and it worked. I need info to see why your attempt did not work. Thanks

I know why you had a failure for line length. The path that you provided would not work. It is just one or two characters too long. Ver 2.0 is passing four items in the exec statement. Windows scripting host requires double backslashes for one of the items. I have a new version 2.1 that I will be uploading today. The last two items will be assumed in js and not passed. That should give us 47 more characters for the first two items. I think this is the minimum that I can pass from the macro to the js file.

Please forgive my ignorance but I do not understand difference between Favorites
Rename Add Project and I-E Bookmarks Tool. What I need is one that I can rename
with just about as easily as the one IE uses. Firefox has one like that which is
called Plain Old Favorites. Does either of these do such as that? Thanks

I-E Bookmarks Tool: is to Import and export bookmarks.
Rename Add Project : is to rename name of bookmarks when you created it, because by default bookmark name is the web page title. With this you can change the name of bookmarck when you are creating it.
