FOUND THE ANSWER; thanks to those who read this post.
Firefox has settings that "accepts cookies from sites" and "keep until I close Firefox" and also one that "always clear my private data when I close Firefox".
Does K-Meleon have these options, and if so, where do I go to set them.
I am running K-Meleon 1.1.2

The option to make K-Meleon accept cookies from specific sites is found at Edit > Preferences > Privacy (use Exceptions here) and to have it clear your private data upon closing it click Tools > Privacy > Settings. For accessing sites such as Gmail, Googlepages etc., choose either MSIE 6.0 or Firefox as your user agent at Tools > User Agent.
