I have uploaded to Rapidshare a new updated no-Xul version :
K-Meleon-NX-1818 .
This is a simplified version of K-Meleon 1.x ,
usable in Linux together with wine , or also in Windows,
updated to Mozilla 1.8.1.8 using Gecko/20071009,
from Seamonkey 1.1.5.
Look and feel are similar to the earlier 0.9 versions.
The NX No-chrome concept is used here. Thanks to Hao Jiang and Dorian.
The browser is very fast, because Xul is not used.
Note : Flashblock, Aggreg8 and other extensions are not included in this
no-chrome version. No autocomplete as it causes problems in Linux.
Ad-blocking by userContent.css and hostperm.1 .
Many useful search engines have been added.
The profiles folder will be created inside the K-Meleon main folder.
If, when in Linux, you want this folder inside the wine configuration directory
because of property rights problems, rename the file profile.ini
inside the K-Meleon main folder to for example profile.ini-renamed
before the first start.
Note :
This version works only if you have the files msvcp71.dll
and msvcr71.dll in your system or in your K-Meleon folder.
If you want to use Internet Explorer Favorites, mfc71.dll
would also be necessary.
If you need these dll's, look for them in the internet .
If necessary in Linux, copy the files manually to the K-Meleon main folder.
A javascript button has been included. After changing permissions
for javascript, reload the page.
History must be deleted manually.

Hi Fred, thanks for this new version.

In NX version you don't include in chrome about: plugins page. This page isn't a xul page and this is usefull. (You only must include plugins.html file in chrome)
Menu option 'Help' -> 'About Plugins' not run!

I'm trying to make an about:config page (or similar in html&javascript) for chrome without xul code.
(I think that this page is very useful)

replaced it with other favorites.dll, now it works agian, dunno why
so far so good except this and flash blocking , i work it out myself

You are right. I forgot to put that into chrome again.
I will try to remember that for the next version,
It is not so bad, because you can look for it in
the plugins folder. It also works only with javascript
enabled, otherwise the page remains blank, but that is
not possible in a different way without Xul.
A page about:chrome would be more important, to enable
easier changes for a user, who does not know how to
edit prefs.js . But this could mean a big javascript page
and a lot of work.

When I did this with K-MeleonCCF ME 0.08 Beta 1, for some reason https connections where no longer handled properly. Even after removing the favorites.dll. You may want to check to see if this problem occures with your K-Meleon-NX-1818 as well.

As I use this browser usually in Linux with the wine
emulator, where I have no Windows favorites, I have tested
now again on Windows XP.
The favorites plugin for Internet Explorer Favorites
loaded ok, but as usual only after a browser restart,
after being enabled in Preferences/Plugins, because
it is disabled by default.
I also had no problems with secure https sites.
I could imagine that you do not have the appropriate
version of mfc71.dll in your system. The one that I have
has version number 7.10.3077.0 , and I cannot check if
other versions of mfc71.dll would work.

as long as i played , https works great on 1818
and more , history.dll won't show me url autocompletion on url bar
i reconfig it to allow 20 entries in history plugin which previously was 1

Autohide seems not to be possible, as putting

user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.layers.autoHide", true);

into prefs.js in the profile has no effect.

I have mfc71.dll v. 7.10.3077.0 in my System32 folder.

I also have MFC71.dl v. 7.10.3077.0 In C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works. I assume both are the same even though one is in caps and the other isn't. I wonder if having two of them may be causing a problem. I would be afraid to try removing one of them as some apps require their own dedicated files. And especially since I don't even know what this particular .dll does.

It appears that the address bar history is not working for me in nx 1818. Even if I enter a full url and then go there--the address bar doesn't drop down at all if I click the arrow at its right. No difference if I use the Go button or Enter to enter the url--nothing in the address bar. I change Privacy Settings to not Clear at all--still no address bar history. I can live without it if this is normal behavior in NX.

Also under Tools -> Advance Prefs -> All Configuration Prefs, I get an error message = The file configs cannot be found...

I am running from the unzipped folder in Program Files.

This is normal in NX because about:config page isn't include in chrome, because this is a XUL page. (I'm working on new config page without XUL code, or other form alternative for access to all configs)

K-Meleon in Spanish

This is a well known fault of the special k-meleon.exe
that has been modified to be usable in Linux.
You can write into the address bar, and the browser
will go to the written URL, but often (not always)
the address in the bar will not change when you have
clicked on a link, although the browser will go to the
link address. Autocomplete had to be taken out
completely, in order to make the browser work in Linux
with wine. It is actually a bit annoying, but does
not really harm the usability.
