Launching (limited) Kmeleon with CD Autorun

I want to launch KMeleon after I insert a CD (and Autorun is executed).
I'm fairly new at this so I'm not sure how to go about things.

The start page would be local and relative, but I want to disable all manner of options - right click, menubars, toolbars, etc. There should be no profile directory either.
I'd like the setup to be something like Ubuntu's Live CD - they use a file called start.exe (and start2.exe) to launch KMeleon on autorun, but I don't know what params they're using to disable all these options.
I want to be able to control what is disabled - I will need Javascript & PDF support and may require Flash as well.

I tried launching KMeleon using command line arguments, but the profile directory had to be an absolute path. (It shouldn't be, right?)

Can anyone guide me through the process? I'm sure something like this has come up before...but I couldn't find any thing online that didn't try to use the default browsers.

Thanks a million.

PS - The search on this site is so slow, it constantly times me out before returning results. I couldn't check if anyone else had the same issues.

PPS - It would be great if things could work cross platform (launching a default browser in Mac/*nix), but I know that's not really a KMeleon forum topic.

sorry about our slow forum / try when the US are off-line (sleeping).

Fred (and others) made dedicated versions. Wait till they find Your post.
Fred is from the Central European Time Zone. He will probably look in 7 hours from now.

You can try with alain's usb versions also.

An external German source not in this forum published this August 2007
and comments it in this thread..

The download consists of a German K-Meleon 1.0 that accompanies and gives the Windows autostart surface of a German OpenOffice and other free Office tools CD.

You can find "K-Meleon on cd" links via Google also not only Ubuntu uses it.

I suggest you to look the way Ubuntu uses to do it.

It' really nice. It uses a launcher named OpenCD. It's no more maintained, but it's always free and avalaible here

The only thing you may change, if needed is the K-Meleon version used (0.8.1) but it's not always needed.

I use it now to create a Photo CD with a menu to launch diaporamas.

The zip file of guenter's link contains a start.exe
to load K-Meleon, which is in the bin folder.
The embedded browser is my version K-Meleon1814forCD,
which you can find on the page for Unofficial K-Meleons
here :
http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/UKmeleon
The embedded version of it for OpenCD has been modified
to serve as a starting browser for the programs of the
earlier Open CD, and has therefore changed macros and menus.
You can use instead my original K-Meleon1814forCD,
which has different menus and macros, and embed it in bin.
Note that there are no history, cache or changeable
bookmarks possible, because this version will not write
on a harddisk and can obviously not save files on the CD.
Flash could probably be used from the plugins folder,
and you could try to embed the FoxitPDFreader in the CD.
As I am writing this in K-Meleon with wine on Linux,
I cannot check if start.exe works ok on Windows.
It did not work on Linux with the wine emulator, but
I presume it will with Windows.

Happy New Year and good luck
Fred

@Fred - Sorry that I did not recognize that it was based Your CD issue.
I only saw that it was good, complete & with a fairly new, well configured K-Meleon.

p.s. Du solltest ein Räppli pro CD von diesen ganzen CD-Leuten nehmen und damit die Entwicklung beschleunigen grinning smiley

No problem, Guenter, thank you for your information
about OpenCD and its start files.
Ich hoffe, dass du gesundheitlich wieder auf gutem Wege bist,
und alles Gute im Neuen Jahr !

I found Alain's version on the internet shortly after making my first post. Thanks for the pointers though - I see Fred's ForCD is linked on the resources page.
I will check out the German OO link as well. Thanks for the useful link.

Fred, I have only just picked up your latest version from the KMeleon resources page and I am trying it out at the moment. It certainly appears to be what I'm looking for. (My fingers are crossed smiling smiley

Alain, I first came across your portable version (1.02) and had been trying to configure it until I needed the 1.1x macro feature of getfolder().
However, using the latest (PocketK 1.1.2) I get the error described here (http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?1,72875,page=2) - "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)".
I will make another attempt to follow your instructions before I post a message on that thread.

Alain, that's exactly what I was talking about - but I couldn't find any mention of it on Ubuntu page. I will try this out. Thank you for the link.

I will be trying both versions over a few days and hopefully I can produce something that works just as I need. Thank you guys.

The Pocket Version you use has some problems with XP. It someties crashes (K-Meleon doesn't work at all) It seems to be due to some problems with some packed like K-Meleon.exe, asome others (for exemple, SetDefault crashes when packed)

I have made a 1.1.3 Pocket Builder which creates 2 types of Pocket : one called Tiny which is packed and may have some problems with XP, and an unpacked version called Fast.

I have submit it but I haven't had report from kko. I hope he agrees and put the versions online. Else, I'll put it on my site.

Packing the exe and dll is an obsolete custom from the time when USB drives were small tongue sticking out smiley

Yes IMHO it should be on SF - but with settings closer to normal/default settings.

p. s. It is the only portable browser that does not write on HDD!
