Hello i used K Meleon mainly with my flash drive until i moved to firefox protable.

I rarelly would like to move back to k-meleon if it would find my profile and settings ( the version form download -> 7zip doesnt) on my usb stick.

seems to leave them on my c drive with xp

Does anyone know where i may download a portable version 1.1.3 ( found only older versions )

Warum alain den 1.1.3portable noch nicht hochgestellt hat, wissen die Götter, den KMPackager dafür hat er schon im Dezember vorbereitet.

Egal, du nimmst jetzt den 1.1.2portable und entpackst ihn auf deinen USB.
Dann entpackst ( z. B. durch Installation) du einen 1.1.3 z. B. auf deine Festplatte, dann nimmst du einen Deteimanager (z. B. exec von cappoodoo Software Archiv and IT News Seite) in dem du die beiden K-Meleon Verzeichnisse gegenüber stellen kannst.

Kopiere das ./K-Meleon/components Verzeichnis von 1.1.3 nach 1.1.2 und lösche darin ./components/xpti.dat und ./components/compreg.dat.

Dann Kopiere alle *.dll vom 17.1.2007 von ./K-Meleon 1.1.3 nach 1.1.2 Auswahl Gruppe selektieren *.dll dann F5.

Jetzt brauchst du noch ./K-Meleon/defaults/pref/I10n.js und ./K-Meleon/defaults/pref/kmeleon.js das bringt ein paar Strings auf den neuesten Stand. Du kannst auch das ./greprefs verzeichnis updaten - es geht aber AFAIK auch ohne.

Jetzt hast du einen K-Meleon Portable 1.1.3. Das Packen der dll haben wir uns gespart - da dein USB größer als 20 MB ist

p. s. Auf Englisch ist alles schon mehrfach erläutert - es gibt sogar einen nicht offiziellen Updater bis GRE 1.8.1.12. Und jetzt folgt die für Suchmaschinen aufbereitete Werbung für dieses Forum.

Dass das K-Meleon Hilfe Forum mehrsprachig ist, ist in Deutschland leider nicht bekannt genug. Hilfe, Support Fragen werden in allen K-Meleon User Foren natürlich auch in unserer Muttersprache beantwortet

ich fand die 7zip version irgendwie schneller als die portable die er online gestellt hat.....

20 mb ist aber schon ganz gut was fehlte denn noch? mit dem kompremieren das hab ich nicht so ganz verstanden

Die K-Meleon Portables sind so gemacht, dass sie gar nicht auf Festplatte schreiben, dadurch sind sie AFAIK langsamer.

Gib in die 7zip nach dem Entpacken eine Datei profile.ini (kann leer sein), das bewirkt, dass K-Meleon seine Profile im eigenen Verzeichnis anlegt. Das ist auf USB u.U. etwas langsamer.

Jeder normale K-Meleon hat nach der Installation ca. 16 MB. Man braucht den Portable nicht packen, wenn der USB Stick größer als 20 MB ist und man das Anschwillen des Cache verhindert. alain packt sie noch mit UPX. Das Packen ist eine Tradition aus der Zeit als USB Sticks klein waren. Mein erster USB Stick hatte 16 MB. Heute muß man nicht mehr verstehen wie, deshalb hab ich es nicht erklärt.

The Pocket K-Meleon 1.1.3 version for german is corrupt because it when I open I get message the archive is either corrupt or damaged

And Pocket_K-Meleon1.1.3de-DE_Tiny.7z has the size of 672KB which is wrong becuase all the other files are much larger

Including Pocket_K-Meleon1.1.3de-DE_Fast.7z which is larger with the size of 4,917KB

I have had some troubles when uploading, and I have forgotten to verify sizes.

@George You can AFAIK install any portable version and use the German locale installer from alain's extenions page

Das ist ein selbstinstallieredes Archiv von Portable K-Meleon 1.1.3de-DE. Einfach dahin kopiern, wo du es entpacken willst und die exe starten. Die Version ist so auf meinem 1GB USB 1. unter XP sp2 gelaufen. Sie ist IMHO auf dem neusten Stand also 1.1.3. Hoffe, dass ich nix vergessen habe Nix ist mit UPX behandelt. Mein Profil ist gelöscht. Guck mal, ob die Version bei dir geht.

p.s. Traue keinem Download / von niemandem und nie! - Überprüfung mit deinem AntiVirus Programm ist Pflicht. Keine Garantien - ? u. U. verschwendest du nur Zeit?

Pocket K-Meleon 1.1.3 Tiny uploaded again, ought to be ok

The 7z size of Tiny version is larger than size of Fast version.
It's due to the fact that 7z algorythms compress more for unpacked files than packed files.

Here is a problem I noticed. (I only use K-meleon PORTABLE)
in Windows XP SP2

I just upgraded to verion 1.1.0.3 'Fast portable' (English)

and found it crashes frequently. I cannot reproduce the behaviour
exactly, but if I run Kmeleon for a while and move from my homepage
to other pages (does not have to be several tabs) then upon closing
down I get error:

AppName: k-meleon.exe AppVer: 1.1.0.3 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0003426d (this offset changes from crash to crash)

also, sometimes (not always) k-meleon remains in the process list
(taskmgr) and has to be 'killed by hand'.

This happens invariably after opening, surfing, closing down, opening again, ...
within five minutes (only up to five tabs or less). As I said, I cannot reproduce it but I un- and re-installed k-meleon but that did not help.

I upgraded from version 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 but instead of using 'fast' I now use the
'TINY' version (which incidentally is also very fast):

The Fast version is near from the official build. The modifications are just for these points:

profile.dll has been replaced by the Douglas version which allows to locate the profile under Portable Folder instead of User folder

xpcom_core.dll has been replaced by Seamonkey version not to create a folder under user folder.

some prefs has been modified to disable history, favicon cache has been disabled, ...

These are the only changes that I made from the official build.

You can try to replace the dll to see if one can be the reason of the crash.

The Tiny build is the same with compression of near all of the exe, dll and jar files.

The compression of some dll had been the reason of crash, in rare case, with XP SP2, and it the reason why I made Fast version (uncompressed).

You say you don't crash with tiny version, but crash with Fast version. It's really surprising.

I beg the reason is not with Pocket, but with XP SP2. I don't doubt about what you said, because on one machine only, I have had this crash, but I really don't understand why.

chrome jar pose no problem - i always compressed jar until kko & Dorian did not want it.

compressed jar make installer versions bigger - that is all i remember.

I am makind kind of Free/Open CD
and of course I use kmeleon

this version works ok from hdd, but when I try to start it from DVD,
it does'nt show up...
it appears in Task Manager (
at first using 3.716MB - for about 1min,
later 11.332MB about the same time,
and at last goes 15 and up (~15.444MB - and then it shows up)..

before I used 1.02 , but it doesn't show me Ctr+F dialog or any sign of it...

I had to refuse 1.12 (as on some XP it really crashes) -- maybe there is 'fast' version for 1.12 as well?

ps.: by the way in what prefs file and what should I change to hide main (text) menu for 1.1x?
I can find some way in view->toolbars->options, but it does'nt save the changes

No Fast version for 1.1.2, I just have created it wirth 1.13

You can disable menu with F2 (Advanced preferences) > Toolbars > Hide menu bar

It adds this pref:

user_pref("kmeleon.toolband.Menu.visibility", false);

in prefs.js and in user.js in user folder

It seems to be in the two files

changing manually seems not to help, in user.js in user folder is empty,
(thought it is not the big problem -- the delay to show is bigger.)

and how could I enable Ctrl+F dialog in pocket 1.02 ?

Pocket is just a standard version (compressed or not) + some modified files to use a profile on the same support and don't write datas on HD. It's based on K-Meleon 1.1.2 or 1.1.3, and more

Km4CD is, if I don't make error, based on 0.9 version (with updated gecko) with old macro system, and to be use from a CD. I haven't tested it.

I haven't tested pocket on CD, but the major problem is the fact that the profile is on the same support, and as I know it's difficult to write on a CD ...

The goal of Pocket is to use K-Meleon from an external place without having problems with drive letter for example. No datas are written on the HD, all is written on USB.

Config can be changed as desired, and bookmarks added what is not the case with Km4CD.

It would be possible to use Pocket on a CD by just restoring the files modified in Pocket: profile.dll and another dll I don't remember the name in K-Meleon root folder, to set the profile be written on windows user folder (Documents & Settings). In this case, datas will have to be deleted from HD after using (if desired).

I don't know exactly what you want to do on CD with K-Meleon, but you can look at the package named OpenCD (it uses 0.82 version) used on Ubuntu Live CD, it's located here.

ps.: by the way, the problem wiht ctrl+F on pocket-kmeleon 1.02 was
that /defaults/profile/accel.cfg was empty...
so I stay with it, because:

freeCD KM have problems with rendering and some mouse event sensibility
(I use overflow:auto, but it doesn't let to scroll it with mouse wheel unless some link is clicked)...

KM4CD changing mimeTypes.rdf strangely doesn't make it use launch.exe ..

pocket KM 1.12 and on (tiny or fast) lag when starting from DVD (probably CD as well) with no cd/dvd activity (I'd understand if they woul search some files)
