new version : K-Meleon-NX-18112

I have uploaded to Rapidshare a new updated unofficial no-Xul version :
K-Meleon-NX-18112 .
This is a simplified version of K-Meleon 1.x ,
usable in Linux together with wine , or also in Windows,
updated to Mozilla 1.8.1.12 using Gecko/20080201,
from Seamonkey 1.1.8.
Look and feel are similar to the earlier 0.9 versions.
The NX No-chrome concept is used here. Thanks to Hao Jiang and Dorian.
The browser is very fast, because Xul is not used.
Note : Flashblock, Aggreg8 and other extensions are not included in this
no-chrome version. No autocomplete as it causes problems in Linux.
Ad-blocking by userContent.css and hostperm.1 .
Many useful search engines have been added, also some that were missing
in earlier versions.
The profiles folder will be created inside the K-Meleon main folder by default.
If, when in Linux, you want this folder inside the wine configuration directory
because of property rights problems, rename the file profile.ini
inside the K-Meleon main folder to for example profile.ini-renamed
before the first start.
Note :
This version works only if you have the files msvcp71.dll
and msvcr71.dll in your system or in your K-Meleon folder.
If you want to use Internet Explorer Favorites, mfc71.dll
would also be necessary.
If you need these dll's, look for them in the internet .
If necessary in Linux, copy the files manually to the K-Meleon main folder.
A javascript button has been included. After changing permissions
for javascript, reload the page.
History must be deleted manually.

or as tarball for Linux at :

Though I'm no w98 user the speed of the NX version of K-M is impressive.
The missing extensions are no issue for me.
There is a single problem I have, namely with mouse gestures.
Since I'm a Opera user for many years I'm heavily missing the 'Left and Right/Right and Left' option for 'Forward/Back'.
Wonder if there is a way to implement it into the NX version.

If you have 'gestures.dll' plugin in kplugins folder, and enabled in Preferences/Plugins panel, you can changed next prefs to config Gesture plugin:

kmeleon.plugins.gestures.***

More documentation about this.

Mouse gestures are included.
You can find the configuration dialog in the menu
Tools/MouseGestures.
There you will also find a Configuration Guide
showing all the possible commands to set in
for the different movements after starting the
configuration dialog.
I think that only the movements offered there are
available, because the kplugin gestures.dll
can only be changed by building it anew.
But the simple movements pulling right to left for page back
and pulling left to right for page forward should
usually be sufficient.

P.S.
Thank your for the link, desga2.
There seem to be some additional possible movements,
but I am not sure if they still work,as this
wiki documentation is quite old.
Try to find one that suits you, and add this
to your prefs.js or user.js before restarting
the browser.

Thanks for the replies

I already knew about the possible commands to set in for the different available movements.
The simple movements pulling right to left for page back and pulling left to right for page forward might be usually be sufficient except you are accustomed since many years with an even more convenient movement without any pulling smiling smiley
However maybe its just inertia on my side.
I took a look at the documentation. There are indeed some additional possible movements, nothing I would be interested in. Just out of curiosity I tried to implement one of them. I could make it work only for the right mouse button even though I followed the instructions. It seems that the documentation is out of date.

Many THANKS for your great work Fred and also a big THANKS for all of you involved in this great project called K-Meleon!

Will the oget plugin work with this version? If so, where do you place the macro file?

This is a version based on 1.0 , which has the older macro structure,
so Alains .kmm extensions would not work.

But you can easily add a macro for a downloader, as I have described it
in an older posting, here:

http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?1,42739,70050#msg-70050

This example is made for the very light downloader WackGet,
which you could download here :

http://www.download.com/WackGet/3000-2071_4-10072327.html

You could for example create a folder Wackget in C: with the program in it.
(all that for Windows only, in Linux, wine would have to be involved.)

Open the browser

Go to the menu Tools-AdvancedPreferences-Menus

menus.cfg springs up in notepad.
Search for

Links{

look for the line :
macros(SaveLink, Save Link As...)
after that line, put in the line

macros(wackget, Download by wackget)

Go in notepad to File/Save and save the file.
______

Go to the menu Tools-AdvancedPreferences-Macros

in macros.cfg

put at the end of the file :

wackget{
menu = "Download by wackget";
exec("C:\\WackGet\\WackGet1.2.2\\WackGet\\WackGet.exe " . $LinkURL);
}

if the extracted folder WackGet1.2.2 is inside a folder "WackGet" on C:

or change the path to the location, where you keep wackget.

Note: the path to WackGet must be written with double back slashes : \\

Do not forget the semicolons at the end of the lines.

Go in notepad to File/Save and save the file.

Close and restart the browser.

There should now appear an entry to download with WackGet in
the right click menu for links.
______

I do not have the downloader oget, but it should be possible
to enable it in a similar way, using the correct path to it
(double back slashes \\ !).

I hope that you succeed and can make it work.

Thank you Fred. Works like a charm with Stardownloader. Now if only they could somehow put a "resume" feature in K-Meleon's downloader for those sites that refuse to let you use an outside download manager. Thanks again :-)
