There is a security update for Adobe Reader 8.0. You can read about the security problem here: http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2219920/adobe-issues-critical-fix
To update the Adobe reader, double click on the Adobe Reader icon, click on "Help" in the top menu, and select "Check for Updates" from the pull down menu. It will do the rest.
Or simply use Foxit Reader. A little reader which works great and is smaller than Acrobat.

I agree, but it uses less resources than Acrobat Reader.

The later versions of Foxit are turning to be as bad as AcroReader in my aging system. I still use them though, but I keep Sumatra PDF along for an emergency...
Adobe Reader 9 is available for download. Don't know how secure it is, though.
