Need help upgrading my 1.02

Hi, here's the basics:

Running 1.02 out of a folder I made on my desktop (Windows XP, Home). I do not keep it in the usual Windows program folder.

I notice there are several upgrades available, the latest being 1.1.5

Question:

1. Which of the later upgrades should I install, and is it better than my 1.02 (which works fine for me)?

2. Can I install it over my old 1.02 without losing all my settings, passwords, bookmarks, etc.? Or should I install it in a new folder, and if so, why?

What's the best way to proceed?

Thanks very, very much for your time and advice....

If you have no personal macros that you want to
take with you from the old version in Windows, you can easily
add a K-Meleon installation of the official actual
K-Meleon version K-Meleon 1.1.5 and wait for the official
update to version 1.1.6, which will be released soon in
due time.
I would download KM1.1.1.5 as a 7z file.
If you should not have 7zip on your computer, download it
from http://www.7-zip.org/ first.
Extract K-Meleon1.1.5 and extract it into a fresh folder.
Starting K-Meleon double-clicking k-meleon.exe in the
K-Meleon main folder, will use your earlier k-meleon profile
if it is in C:/Documents.../Application data/yourusername/K-meleon.
If the result is not satisfying, save your earlier bookmarks
and setting to a safe place by copying it from the profile
folder of your earlier K-Meleon.
KM1.1.5 will then create a new profile in the folder
mentioned above, and you can copy back your personal
settings and bookmarks from the saved copy of your earlier
version's profile.
Should you have some personal macros and settings from your
old KM 1.02 version, you can wait until I will offer an
updated 1.02 version containing Gecko 1.8.1.15, which I
plan to bring out within a couple of days.
If you do not use Linux, or the old macro system, it is
preferable to use the official versions most of times.
Using the 7z version will not erase your earlier version
and you can use them both, although not at the same time.

P.S.:
To be safe in any case, make a copy of your old profile
before installing anything.

Capn Jimbo,

Just read a thread at MozillaZine Seamonkey and they are going to have a bugfix for this new release out in a week or two. So there will be new FFs and SMs in the near future.

I think I understand. I will install the new version to a new folder, then copy over my old bookmarks, profile and settings from my 1.02 folder. I need to know what the name of these files are though. I know I will need:

1. bookmarks
2. favorites
3. passwords, etc. from password manager

Can you please give me the names of the files to copy over to the new folder? Have I left any out so all of my personal settings can come over?

Thanks...

In profile folders:

???????.s password file
???????.w form file
bookmarks.html bookmarks
favorites nothing, these are URL shortcuts created in IE structure folder

But I think it ought to be possible to install 1.1.5 over an old existing install like 1.0.2. The 1.5 setup will make possible to install over an old install drom 0.9 to 1.1.x

Just, for security, before install, make a copy of profile folder
When installing, just validate the install over an old install and don't delete the profile.

Gunter,

Yes, I downloaded Fred's latest (until the bugfix SM comes out of course) and it works just fine. I'm still too busy to do much, but I am trying to come to terms with the new macro language and port all my old stuff over to KM 1.5.

The unofficial updated old version K-Meleon1.02-1.8.1.16
can be downloaded from :

http://rapidshare.com/files/130260699/K-Meleon1.02-1.8.1.16.zip.html

Note : The profile will be created in the K-Meleon main folder
by default.
Don't forget that you need the 71 runtimes msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll
in your system or in the K-Meleon main folder.
