Ping: Fred Version 1.1.6 Right Click Menu Question

Fred,
just wanted to know if you know where you place the entries that would give you the "download with XXXX" entry on the right click menu in this version? or can this be done?

In the NX Versions, you placed these entries in the Profiles Menu and Macros files. These two files appear very different in the 1.1.6 version. I'm trying this version out, because I've been having a lot crashes with the NX18116 version.

It has crash each of the last three days. I get the dreaded message, kmeleon has experience.........and will be closed.... Before closing I copied the following from the error message box:

AppName: k-meleon.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.0 ModName: gklayout.dll

My computer knowledge is very limited, so the only way I know how to correct this (after saving bookmarks, plugins etc.), is to delete and create a new profile and re-enter all of the download locations, mail entries, etc again, which has become a real pain in the .....

Using XP SP3 Home edition. tia for any assistance you can provide.

If K-Meleon-NX18116 causes repeated problems, I would try
reinstalling it from a new zip-download, unpacking it into
a fresh folder.
If you have a profile, that needs to be reinstalled over and over,
close the browser and rename the folder profile inside the folder defaults
to profile-original. Copy the folder Profile inside your personal
profiles folder into the folder defaults, and rename it from Profile
to profile. Than rename your used personal profiles folder to profiles2
and when restarting the browser a new personal profiles folder
with your wanted content of bookmarks, prefs etc will be created
as a copy of the one in defaults, and everytime anew when it will
be necessary to delete a corrupted personal profile. Only your
bookmarks would not be updated, if you had some new ones.
Concerning the context-menu "Download with XXX", it is usually not
present in my version. I presume that you mean "Download by flashget",
or "Download by Wackget". Did you add that yourself earlier as a macro ?
When using KM 1.1.6, I would propose to download and install
the Flashget or the Wackget plugin by Jujuland, from his
extensions page, here :

http://pagesperso-orange.fr/jujuland46/JujuLand/KMES/KMES-Download.html#down_extensions

But KMNX18116 should usually not have repeated problems. I would try a reinstall.

Fred

Thanks for reply, will do what you have suggested. As for the "Download With", here are the entries that I've been using and it works without the need of any additional applications,(except the downloader of course) :-)

In the menu.cfg file:

macros(stardown, Download with stardown)

This info is placed here:

Links{

look for the line :
macros(SaveLink, Save Link As...)
after that line, put in the line

(of course if a different downloader is used, it would be substituted for "stardown")

In the macros.cfg file:

stardown{
menu = "Download with stardown";
exec("C:\\Program Files\\Star Downloader\\stardown.exe " . $LinkURL);
}

the above is placed at the end of the macros.cfg file. (again changing star to whatever downloader is being used.

I thought these could be added in the 1.1.6 version as well, but the macro and menu file are completely different and I have no idea where you would place them.

I found this way easier because you can use this with any downloader. Again thanks for you help.

Hi Fred,

Here is my first web browsing with 1.5.0rc under Ubuntu via wine.

I haven't test all, but it seems to work great (with w9x version, because with unicode version it crashes)

I'm not able to make it at home (ISDN don't want to work), but here I'm preparing computers for my daughters, and it's really a pleasure.

It's not completely as faster as with XP, but it's really fast.

I have just some problems with some icons and transparency (close tab, Go button, Search.

I have just now a quick question. How to add easily menu entries for wine (Applications/Wine/Programs)?

Humm, another: how to install or make work java ?

@ Zoohooter

I would try the following :

Download and install the Wackget Extension from Jujulands site, here :

http://pagesperso-orange.fr/jujuland46/JujuLand/KMES/K-Ext110_Wackget.exe

This will create a .kmm file wackget.kmm inside the folder "macros"
After the installation, you should get a keyboard accelerator
with the key combination

SHIFT+ALT+W

to open a prompt for changing the Wackget path.
Writing there the path to the Starloader .exe should enable
Starloader as your downloader after a browser restart.
The menu would still be for Wackget, but with Starloader working
instead.

I hope that this will work, because it is the easiest way to do it.
If not, may be Jujuland can help you with further changes in his macro.

@ Jujuland

To add a program to the Gnome menu in Ubuntu, start
a terminal and call up the program alacarte .
It is also in the Gnome menu System/Preferences as
MainMenu .
Go to the place, where you want K-Meleon to appear
in the menu, for example Wine/Programs and push "New Menu".
Make a menu Applications, and in it then add a "New Item"
K-Meleon. Browse to the path in the line "Command"
and it should appear in the Gnome menu.
If you should want a Wine virtual desktop, type into
a Terminal window winecfg , select a Windows version
and add the program name in Applications. Enable
"Emulated desktop" in the tab Graphics. You should be able
to get a start menu, but you should try to find out how
to do that, I have not tried the virtual desktop yet,
as having K-Meleom in the Gnome menu seems good enough for me.

To enable Java, go to the Sun site and download it (75mb).
As it seems, it will not work with the wine version
which is included in Ubuntu Hardy Heron, I would update
with a wine 1.0 rc or later from the Wine site winehq.org .
You can add the wine repository in the synaptic package
manager or download a .deb of wine and install it as root
in an opened terminal typing (without the #) :

# sudo dpkg -i /path/to/wine-xxxx.deb

or, if you have a binary tar.gz (not a source) :

# sudo tar -C / -zxf /path/to/wine-xxx.tar.gz

To install Java open a terminal and install it as user by

wine /path/to/the/java.exe

It would install java inside the .wine configuration file
inside your HOME directory, and should work after starting the
browser.

By the way :
It's not a good a idea for Linux users in the installer to
automatically select k-meleon.exe as the appropriate exe,
and delete k-meleonW9x.exe automatically.
Wine, when set to represent XP in winecfg, is missing the capability
to run with the k-meleon.exe made for Vista and XP.
It only works with k-meleonW9x.exe,which will never appear
in the K-Meleon main folder at all.
It will only appear. if Wine is set to represent Win98 or earlier
in winecfg. Then it will appear as an .exe renamed to k-meleon.exe.
So the browser will crash every time, if this is not a known fact.

@ Zoohooter

I found the thread, where I explained the way to add
a downloader link macro.

http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?1,77877,78013#msg-78013

You answered me there and must have added the macro.
That is why I did not find it in the macros of my version,
where it is not included by default.

@Fred,

I understand it's a little ennoying when installing with XP or Vista and using it under Linux.

As the 1.5.0 final version is online, I can't modify setup, but for future version, I will modify it to check K-Meleon use under Linux and have the non-unicode version installed.

For now, you have the possibility to extract K-Meleon.exe from the setup by opening the setup with 7z. If you want to keep the unicode, preserve it before extracting. For Linux users, I don't think it's a very difficult thing to do.

@Fred,

Happy to report that found the locations to place those scripts to get the desired results on my right click menu. I now have these two entries on the 1.1.6 and the new 1.5 versions:

Download with stardown
Download with dap

If anyone is interested, I'll post the how to.

Did you adapt the wackget.kmm script a little to
work for stardownloader ?
Good to hear that you succeeded and can use your
favorite application now.

No, I used the same instructions that you originally gave me, just found exactly where to place the entries in the latest versions.
