I have uploaded to Rapidshare a new unofficial variation version :
K-Meleon1.5-Linux-18117pre .
This is an adapted variation of K-Meleon 1.5 ,
usable in Linux together with Wine , or also in Windows,
updated to Mozilla 1.8.1.17pre using Gecko/20080716.

Note :
* This version works only if you have the files msvcp71.dll
and msvcr71.dll in your system or in your K-Meleon folder.
If you need these dll's, look for them in the internet .
If necessary in Linux, copy the files manually to the K-Meleon main folder.
* In Linux the URL bar is only usable with more recent wine versions.
If you are using an older wine version, use the URL button to open an URL prompt.
* Real Tabs are now implemented. Tabs are now usable in Linux too, while
Layers were not working well.

* NoScript extension included. Thanks to Giorgio Maone (http://maone.net), jujuland and desga2.
* AdblockPlus extension included. Thanks to Wladimir Palant (http://adblockplus.org), and jujuland.
* To use NoScript, Javascript has always to be enabled.
* Many additional Search Engines in the menu bar, opening in a new window.
* Newsfox RSS collection for English, German and French newspapers and Linux newssites added.
* You can delete Newsfox Groups of unwanted languages to avoid long loading times.
* Keyboard shortcuts:
Page back : (right)ctrl + left arrow
Page forward : (right)ctrl + right arrow
Close Window : (right)ctrl + down arrow
Go to home : (right)ctrl + up arrow

The profiles folder will be created inside the K-Meleon main folder by default.
If, when in Linux, you want this folder inside the wine configuration directory
because of property rights problems, rename the file profile.ini
inside the K-Meleon main folder to for example profile.ini-renamed
before the first start.

P.S.

If you should get occasional browser crashes, go to
the folder components inside the K-Meleon main folder
and delete there the two files compreg.dat and xpti.dat .
The browser would recreate them at the next start.

@Fred, Thank you for this Fred. I have two questions if I may. The first is, are you thinking of an NX version of 1.5? Will that be possible? And the second is whether you have any ideas or clues about where the problem might be that prevents the url bar from updating when following a link in both NX-18116 and 1.5? I sometimes have time I could experiment with wine and hope to get lucky ;-)

The NoXul version KM-NX-18116 is still having the
latest Gecko update of the current Seamonkey and Firefox.
18117 is due sometimes next month allegedly.
So it is now actually at the same security level as KM 1.5.
The NoXul strucuture makes it impossible to have a
NX version of 1.5 because there is no chrome with Xul,
but only a chrome of scripts. So I stick to updating
KM-NX from time to time, using the latest Gecko for
security updates.
At the other hand my Linux variation of 1.5 has a normal
chrome, and this made it possible to include the most
important extensions, namely NoScript and AdblockPlus.
Both versions are fully usable in Linux, apart from
the little problem with the URL bar, that you mentioned,
and which is caused by a fault in coordination between
k-meleon.exe and Wine. I do not have a solution for this.
Bigger Problems could appear for K-Meleon in Linux,
when Gecko 1.8 will be abandoned for updates, after
Seamonkey will have released 2.0 using Gecko 1.9 sometimes
early in 2009, and a certain time added for all users
to change to Seamonkey 2.0 .
I have managed to arrange a KM-NX-1.9.1a2pre variation,
which works quite well in Windows, but has still too
many crashes in Linux, which might derive from the fact,
that the development of Wine has not yet proceeded far
enough. I hope, that this will have been improved in
due time.
Regards
Fred

Yes Fred, I hope you will keep up with NX as long as possible. I am thinking that in my linux/wine setup it runs snappier than 1.5 (though 1.5 is very nice, and I am glad to have the true tabs and other things). And in both your enhancements are extrememly nice. best, pd

I think that the main problem to port 1.5 to NX format is that you lost all Preferences panels to config K-Meleon.
But you can test Hao's K-Meleon CCF ME versions, this is based in 1.5 sources and is NoXul format. The preference panel and macros are replaced for Lua macros.

If I choose Hao's Kmeleon over standard Kmeleon, what am I gaining and what am I losing?
