Awesome Bar... not

Please, somebody pinch me. It seems that FF, IE and Opera have fallend in love with this misnamed "Awesome Bar" thingee. Boy do I hate it. I've reverted to FF 2.1.6 because of it, along with the back/forward bar and how bookmarks are handled.

Change for change sake I think.

I rarely use ff but it's dreadful I agree

Apparently this addon restores ff 2 functionality

However like you I reverted to ff2 because of that and also because half my plugins won't work with ff3

Somewhere on the http://www.mozillazine.org website, it tells you how to disable the 'Awesome Bar' function, which I promptly did.

I read from the posts that the disables by extensions or by playing with the chrome in FF3.xx don't completely restore the navigaiton bar to FF2 style. Something about the code being completely rewritten for this offering, which makes me wonder about KM and Gecko 1.9. Will this Awesome Bar be in a future KM?

<weak grin>

Meanwhile, FF 2.1.6 is my alternative browser and I'll revist FF 3 when it has a toggle that either disables the Awesome Bar or a toggle that helps restore FF2 behavior.

How to Completely disable the AWESOME BAR!

1. In the URL Address bar, type about:config and press Enter.

o The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.

2. Search for the preference browser.urlbar.maxRichResults.

3. Double-click the browser.urlbar.maxRichResults preference and enter a value of -1.

4. Whilst there also double-click browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped to change it to True ...... it is directly above browser.urlbar.maxRichResults

5. From the menu at the top of the Firefox windowbar, select File and then select Exit.

6. Start Firefox again.
