Why doesn't K-meleon use the latest Gecko engine?

Wouldn't this be better, more secure, etc.?

THANKS

Are you tried the last 1.5.2 RC?
This include last Gecko engine version 1.8.1.18.
Download K-Meleon 1.5.2RC.

According to the Mozilla developers FF uses Gecko 1.9.0.4

And I thought Gecko 1.9.0.4 is the latest version?

Gecko 1.9.X series only can be tested with unofficial Hao's K-MeleonCCF versions 0.9.
Read this thread.

Ok, well I'm running 1.5.2RC and it's really nice, seems like maybe it's faster then 1.5.1

THANKS

Gecko 1.8.1.18 is as safe as the 1.9 Gecko of Firefox 3.0.4
and is also still used by Firefox 2.0.0.18, which is still supported
by the Mozilla developers for a while.
Using Gecko 1.9 will need a new K-Meleon generation which is
not quite ready now, and it is used only in experimental
K-Meleon versions up to now. Hao's browser is one of these,
as well as some of my own experimental Linux/wine versions, which
I use only personally for the moment.

I tried Hao's can't say I like it, maybe it's just the cosmetics, didn't like the Home page with all the websites, reminds me of that crap Google Chrome, and didn't like that I couldn't use the default KM skin.

Also it uses more memory then 1.5.1 and 1.5.2RC

i've found the reason. it's caused by installing km1.5.2 without uninstalling the prior version .

@ kevinnn:

- About your User Agent string problem:

Look again your image before post, you have set as Firefox 2 User Agent string, this settings spoofing your really User Agent by Firefox 2.0.0.16 with Gecko 1.8.1.16.

-About K-MeleonCCF:

You can change the Home page (this is set as speeddial by default).
You can change the skin by default for other skin or addapted default K-Meleon skin to work in K-MeleonCCF. But this need some of work with the skin and now K-MeleonCCF functions (some are differents because CCF use Lua macros instead K-Meleon macros).

Indeed,user-agent checking effects the display of " aboout k-meleon",but the display about Gecko version are the same.
pls see the images below:

these're screen-captures of re-installing km1.5.2 after uninstalling the prior version of km. i think it may be caused by the remain after install without uninstalling the prior version .

Why is K-Meleon 1.5.2RC not listed on:

This is a good question:

1) In K-Meleon Web Home and K-Meleon Download, there is a section for developement release like this 1.5.2RC:

Quote
K-Meleon Web
Latest Development Release

None available at this time.

2) In K-Meleon Sourceforge project page also there is a section for development versions:

Home page/speed dial originated with Opera and then was copied by a firefox addon, maxthon and other browsers.

ccfme has a very small footprint and is very fast, check out the threads - I don't experience high memory usage on a p4 or a p3
