Hello, I just thought I would like to say that I am new to K-Meleon. Is there a spell checker available?

Yes download at jujuland's k-meleon extension page.

Additional You need Your native dictionary in ./K-Meleon/dictionaries.
K-Meleon uses the same dictionaries as Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, Firefox...
Download at Mozilla extensions, unpack xpi (file extension means a zipped installer file) then copy .aff & .dic files to /K-Meleon/dictionaries.
