To 9 : In Edit/Preferences go to Browsing/Windows Diversion
and select where such links should open.
To 10: Open /defaults/settings/menus.cfg in Notepad and search for the line
Open In Backgroun&d Window=ID_OPEN_LINK_IN_BACKGROUND
and add below it the line

5. While doing this, I also manually edited pref.js and was able to get a broken password saving dialog working (no text, 3 buttons: "Yes", "No", and "" [blank], with the obvious results);
Could you please provide details so I can also get it working. Many thanks.

Sorry for the delay, but real life (or rather, real death) has kept me away from my workstation.

As for your question, I'm really not very sure what I did to get this result, appart from copying some files from the profile dir of another KM version (xxxxxxx.s and pref.js) and checking them via the about:config interface. My guess is, since KM had a password file and password caching enabled it couldn't help but use them... :cool:

Would anyone have some guidance on those last 3 questions? TIA

EDIT: OOPS! Hadn't seen Fred's answer. Thousand thanks, mate! grinning smiley

EDIT2: CTRL+Enter for www.+.com completion in the address bar isn't working.

Ctrl + Enter is not working at the moment, but it is
necessary only for addresses with a subdomain,
to simple domains .com will be added automatically.

Fred

Not sure if I follow here: do you mean that .com will be appended to any expression entered in the address bar?

Another matter -- do you think that the sessions plugin is compatible with this version of K-Meleon? It's about the only thing that I miss for a rewarding browsing experience... TIA

You can type for example :
yahoo
into the address bar, push the Enter button,
and http://www.yahoo.com will open automatically,
if this URL exists.

I have taken the sessions plugins out, because it
causes problems in Linux with wine.
In Windows, You can copy and paste the sessions
plugin from the official version in kplugins.
Close the browser and open your profile, which is
in the Profiles folder inside the K-Meleon main folder,
and open prefs.js in Notepad.
change the line
user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.sessions.load", false);
to
user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.sessions.load", true);
save Notepad (not: save as),and restart the browser.
If you want the sessions plugin loaded in all new
profiles, do the same for prefs.js inside
the folder /defaults/profile.

Thank you so very much for all the help you're providing.

Didn't get to the sessions plugin yet, but did try Addblock Plus, which seemingly isn't working -- any clues on this appreciated (it is one of those essential extensions); Flashblock works alright, though. Also, the KM adapted oGet seems to be working well, allowing for easy selection of the download manager (Reget, in my case).

Some other issues: nothing happens when you select 'Edit | MIME Types'; also 'Edit | Configuration | Commands List' complained about file commands.txt not being found, until I copied it from a previous KM version to the [KM Install Folder]\skins folder.

It is looking like this tweaked KM-SMW3 will become my default K-Meleon -- for various reasons mostly related to real world performance and specific configuration options, while trying other versions, I tend to stick with particular versions for a long time (FYI, my former default was a 1.5Beta2)... tongue sticking out smiley

Thanks, again. smiling smiley

EDIT: In future KM versions the reference to the 'commands.txt' file could be replaced with a link to:
http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/manual/command-id.html

Can confirm that sessions plugin works, but I can't reproduce the expected behaviour of entering a term in the Address Bar -- it justs gets 'http://'; as prefix and '/' as suffix, which obviously doesn't work.

History settings (Edit | Preferences | Browsing | History) "[CheckMark] Keep a list of all pages visited in the last [TextField] days" and "[CheckMark] Keep a list of [TextField] most recent visited locations" aren't sticking now -- maybe some change I did?

KM-SM2-W3 is not based on Seamonkey 1.1.15
respectively Gecko 1.8.1.21, but on the
Seamonkey-2.0-alpha amd Gecko 1.9b3, the
upcoming Seamonkey generation.
There is a newer alpha available, 2.0.a3 ,
and I will prepare an update to that.

While trying to access a corporate Intranet server, I got the following error:

----- BEGIN DIALOG TEXT -----

Secure Connection Failed
<IntranetSiteURL> uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown.
(Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

* This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.
* If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.

Or you can add an exception…

You should not add an exception if you are using an internet connection that you do not trust completely or if you are not used to seeing a warning for this server.
If you still wish to add an exception for this site, you can do so in your advanced encryption settings.

----- END DIALOG TEXT -----

The last paragraph proposes a way to go around the problem, but I did not manage to access 'advanced encryption settings', so I couldn't access the server with KM-SM2W3...

Although I cherish your updating work, I'll keep working on this version for the time being, trying to identify and, if possible, iron out the issues detected. When a fully work worthy configuration is achieved it will be a lot easier to upgrade, knowing that any new issues are caused by the new version, and allowing for a measure of uncertainty control...

This may sound defeatist. "Advanced encryption..." was AFAIK done via exe.

IMHO disrupted first found that the certificates do not work as in K-Meleon for 1.8.
k-meleon's internal certs error pages are not called. He reshacked/looked into exe.
AFAIK it has nothing to do with possible configurations or maintaining k-ms for 1.8.

The cert error chrome is only partly inside our normal chrome files.

You would find needed png in messenger skin areas, relocated and hacked XUL paths that only lead to new cannot-find errors, they seem hard coded in dll? And they seem to have additional security restrictions as soon as GRE 1.9.1 is used.

Did You really try to hack Your way into pippki.jar to and found that "advanced encryption settings" are not accessible?

I did not get that far. Even when I used the whole untrimmed SeaMonkey Chrome (all 13 MB of it) and the whole untrimmed GRE, I only got to the attached Screenshot,

Where Add Exception... and This sounds bad ...., do not work.

They do nothing. They cause NO error message - dead end road!

So I have discontinued my attempt to make a K-Meleon 1.6 for 1.9 chrome.

No, Guenter, I did not even try to go where you have been smiling smiley

All I did was look at the usual places, preferences & system files.

But I don't think you sound defeatist, better to know this beforehand, than having to smash into it in a production environment.

For my part, lacking technical savvy to do more, I set a RED FLAG here and call it a day.

BTW, I found another bug while posting this: the color options of the posting editor don't work with this version (they also don't work with last Orca v1.1build2) -- all I get is a funny text cum hilite on mouseover line to the left of the forum green column...

Nothing has been changed in the update, except
the files coming from Seamonkey.
Don't forget, that this is an experimental version,
based on an alpha, and it may contain flaws
coming from the Seamonkey files that cannot be
controlled by us, and may which may only have effects
when coming together with the K-Meleon structure.
Nevertheless there may be less security risks
using the latest Seamonkey alpha as a base. That's
why I updated the package.

saves the hassle of testing with various pages..expired/unknown CA/domain name mismatch all in one link

for multi testing, making sure to clear the cache before revisitn ght elink again

Just so everybody knows, Orca seems to deal OK with this certificate situation.

Orca User Agent String:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009030821 Firefox/3.0.7 Orca/1.1 build 2

Could I interest Fred in a brief explanation of updating procedures? _

(Mainly the gecko engines and a few menu options, like when using help menu to access the forum or searching from the toolbar it always opens a new window...)

Thanks for for any help -- and a job well done.

Download seamonkey-2.0a3.en-US.win32.zip from the site
seamonkey-project.org and unpack it.
Open in your K-Meleon-SM version the folder components.
Open in Seamonkey the folder components.
Replace all files in K-Meleon/components that have the same
name as files in Seamonkey/components with these files from
Seamonkey. Do not copy other files, which have no corresponding
file in K-Meleon already.
Replace the folder res in K-Meleon with the folder res from Seamonkey.
Replace the files in the K-Meleon main folder which have
files of the same name in the Seamonkey main folder with these files
from Seamonkey. The main folder is the folder where k-meleon.exe is.
Do not copy other files, which have no corresponding
file in K-Meleon already.
Go to the K-Meleon/components folder and delete the
existing files compreg.dat and xpti.dat, or move them
to another place on your computer.
Restarting the browser will recreate these files.

To open the forum from the Help menu in the same window
edit newmacros.kmm in the macros folder.
Look for the macro
GoToForum
and replace opennew with open.

To open searching from the toolbar search button in the same window
edit the search macros in newmacros.kmm in the macros folder.
For Google Look for the macro
Gg
and replace opennew with open.

Do the same thing for other search engines if you want that :
Yh is Yahoo, Msn is Microsoft Live Search etc.

Note that the browser must be restarted after resaving
newmacros.kmm (do that as "all files", not as kmm.txt).

I hope that you succeed without any problems.

Regards
Fred

P.S.

By the way :

If you want to add Bing (the new Microsoft search)
and Bing Image Search to the search engines working fron
the toolbar search button, add the following at
the bottom of newmacros.kmm :

Bing{
$word = prompt("Enter search query:", "Bing");
open("bing.com/search?q=" . $word );
}
Bingimages{
$word = prompt("Enter search query:", "Bing Images");
open("bing.com/images/search?q=" . $word );
}

and edit /defaults/settings/menus.cfg

Search in menus.cfg for

Go to address{

and add after the line

Search Yahoo=macros(Yh)

the 2 lines

Search Bing=macros(Bing)
Search BingImages=macros(Bingimages)

Resave newmacros.kmm and menu.cfg (with the browser closed)
and restart the browser.

Save before a copy of the orginal files somewhere else to be on the safe side.

I need help plz
I wanted to make hotlink to work not only with numkeys also with numpads.
so I changed hotlink.kmm part

_hotlink_SetAccelsLoop{
setaccel("CTRL ".$_i,"macros(hotlink(".$_i."))"); $_i=$_i+1;
}

to

_hotlink_SetAccelsLoop{
setaccel("CTRL ".$_i,"macros(hotlink(".$_i."))")
setaccel("CTRL VK_NUMPAD".$_i,"macros(hotlink(".$_i."))"); $_i=$_i+1;
}

this works fine with 1.53 but not with SM2.
What should I do?

The latest version is K-Meleon-SM2a3 from
Seamonkey2alpha3.
Download from here :

http://one.xthost.info/eichhein2/K-Meleon-SM2a3.zip

Cookies must be allowed for all to make the download button work.
Don't forget that you have to have the files
msvcp71.dll, msvcr71.dll and mfc71u.dll
in your system or in your K-Meleon main folder to make this
variation work.

To Fred and @ll:

Now that Seamonkey 2.0 has a release candidate, I tried again to replicate the procedure indicated last June 1st (above) -- this time using a freshly downloaded K-Meleon-SM2a3 package (from XTHost) and the latest "SeaMonkey Setup 2.0 RC 1.exe" (from www.seamonkey-project.org), extracted with the latest Universal Extractor -- but unfortunately got exactly the same results as before (window opens, menus look operational, but nothing else).

I wish someone would be able to produce a working version with this files, since it has been my default K-Meleon for the better part of the current year. Any guidance dearly appreciated. Thanks,
