Sumatra PDF & K-Meleon?

Good evening.

I have recently discovered the light weight and ultra fast Sumatra PDF Freeware Viewer and I would love to have the online PDF files open inside K-Meleon into a tab, just as Acrobat does.

I've uninstalled Acrobat completely but Sumatra seems unable to load directly on a browser tab, after choosing Sumatra as the default application for PDFs it works only if I edit K-Meleon MIME types and link PDFs to Sumatra, so when I open a PDF online Sumatra opens automatically, but as an external application, not just inside the browser into a tab.

Does anybody know how to do that as Acrobat did?

I think that FoxIt Reader has a plugin, and can do it.

Foxit isn't free, just freeware, but really smaller than this shit namesd Acrobat Reader ...

just like desga sez that needs a plugin.. and:

"Also, at the moment I have no plans to implement browser plugin in the first place."

the best you can do to make pdfs open right away instead of downloading or selecting "download or open", is to add it in mime types:

even if a plugin was available, it's not really healthy to open pdf files inside the browser.. big files may stall and could freeze km

I've been thinking about that and I think you're right, it's better to open the PDFs outside the browser through the MIME types, it's better to avoid unexpected crashes and also having a dual core CPU it will help to divide it between CPU cores, PDF to one core and KM to the other rather than having both on the same.

Thanks to everyone for their ideas and support.

PS. BTW Does anybody know in which file is stored the KM MIME types config?

in prefs.js

can also access it in about:config easier by filtering plugin.

but sometimes mimes have an indirect relation with this registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Netscape\Netscape Navigator\Viewers

for example if you add a mime tupe in the editor and find that it's not having an effect or not executing with the command you've chosen; that normally means there's a conflict between that mime extension and how it's registered in your registry... to avoid such problems, always make sure the mime type in the editor corresponds exactly to how it's registered under netscape viewers.

Many thanks to everybody.

One last question: The file mimeTypes.rdf which is at C:\Archivos de programa\K-Meleon\defaults\profile is changed often when a new K-Meleon version arrives or is it just the same all over the years?

It ought to be preserved when updating K-Meleon, but who knows ... you can perhaps save it, for example by using the extension 'ProfileBackup' which allows to save bookmarks, but also the files you want ...

uninstalled Acrobat

Might want to keep Acrobat reader around. I have run across several sites that have PDF docs that will only open in Acrobat Reader. As far as I recall they were only NC and US gov sites. So far!

AFAIK not changed.

AFAIRemember the initial file was made for 0.8/0.9 by jsnj with firefox. We had editors since.

Ok, thanks.

That question is because I've saved the edited version of that file so I can just copy it to the defaults\profile every time a reinstall K-Meleon on a new system, so I can save time and I do not need to edit the MIME types by hand.

I've also made a copy jvs script for this file to save even more time.
Seeing that this basic script works, now I feel myself like MacGyver.

Thanks again.
