Some bug fixes that may or may not impact K-Meleon.

I wonder about FireFox. Is there going to be a FireFox 2.0.0.21? I ask only because Seamonkey put out its bugfix, but I see no comparable FF bugfix for FF2.xxxx

There won't be any more updates for Firefox 2 ,
and users are urged to change to Firefox 3.0.7 .
Seamonkey will still keep Gecko 1.8.1.x for a while ,
but sooner or later they will also go to use
Gecko 1.9 , which will then make all K-Meleon versions
based on Gecko 1.8.1.x obsolete too, because they
are based on Seamonkey , and it will not be
possible to have security updates anymore.
Then at the latest, a K-Meleon 1.6 , based on
Gecko 1.9 will have to be ready.
Gecko 1.9.x is already in use in the alpha version
Seamonkey 2.0a3 , and also in the derived K-Meleon
experimental versions K-Meleon 1.6 , Hao's CCF ,
and my variation K-MeleonSM2a3.

Does this indicate from which branch the new grafts were cut?

MFSA 2009-07 Crashes with evidence of memory corruption (rv:1.9.0.7)
MFSA 2009-05 XMLHttpRequest allows reading HTTPOnly cookies
MFSA 2009-01 Crashes with evidence of memory corruption (rv:1.9.0.6)

p.s. @ Fred, Die jetzigen SM Updates kommen aus 1.9? Richtig? Also dann könnte man u.

Fred,

Well then, FF2.xx users had better be careful as Seamonkey and now K-Meleon have the latest updates, but FF2 users must (it seems) move NOW to FF3.

Ja, es sieht so aus als würden Teile übernommen.
Aber eben, wer könnte das einfügen ?

@ ndebord

Seamonkey and K-Meleon can still be used with Gecko 1.8.x ,
because the Seamonkey team still fixes its vulnerabilities,
while this is not the case anymore for Firefox 2 .
Once they stop this for Seamonkey as well, K-Meleon would
have to change to Gecko 1.9 as well. The time is not precisely
known yet.

Fred,

Yup, we're just going to have to wait and see what Mozilla does and when.

For the moment I released an UNOFFICIAL UPDATE for K-Meleon 1.5.X to Gecko 1.8.1.21 based in Seamonkey 1.1.15.

I look that there are a K-Meleon 1.5.3 expected and Seamonkey 1.1.16 in Seamonkey "Nightly" builds.

I think Seamonkey will waited to summer for change to trunk 2.0 versions based in Gecko 1.9.x.

Desga2,

Thanks much for the unofficial update for KM 1.5xx. Got it and installed it ASAP. I wonder about a SeaMonkey 1.1.16 as we just had the 1.1.15 update?

Fred,

I've seen mention of Ubuntu 7.10: firefox 2.0.0.21? Not running Linux here, so wonder about that.

I think you are wrong, look in DistroWatch.com.
Ubuntu 7.10 include Firefox 2.0.0.6.

Firefox 2.0.0.20 seems to have been the last release
of Firefox 2, although there are still nightlies
of a Firefox 2.0.0.22pre .
Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy is an old Ubuntu version from
october 2007, who will not be supported later than April
2009, that means no new software updates will be
available from the repositories.
The usual life cycle is 1.5 years, while the so-called
LTS versions like 8.04 Hardy are supported for 3 years.
You can of course use the versions longer than that,
if you update them manually yourself, but the danger
is, that libraries which you have to replace, will be
missed by other installed programs, and the system can
become unstable. As long as the version is supported,
you can get automatic updates for every installed program.

You you can see Firefox 2.0.0.22pre in his nightly.

This continue his developement because Thunderbird 2 continue use Gecko 1.8.1 engine.
You can read it in the Wikipedia and here.

If there is a Thunderbird 2 with 2.0.0.21 engine and there is expected a 2.0.0.22 version with updates to Gecko 1.8.1 engine must exist a way to port Thunderbird 2 engine versions 2.0.0.21 and 22 to Firefox engine.

Since when are You interested in FFox?

Compilation of Source like Orca with:

--disable-static

AFAIK gives You most core components as small dll that can update K-Meleon 1.5.x;
but it will still rely on "toolkit" for many functions K-Meleon needs.

You can probably also change compile target to FFox and Suite.

The SeaMonkey Council is aiming to release SeaMonkey 2.0 somewhere during the summer. It could be later, though. They won't ship it until it's done.

desga2,

Well, that worked out nicely. Rather than have an unknown FF association in my windows folders, I first installed the last portable FF2, then installed this so-called bon echo (2.0.0.22pre). I overwrote file versions with a copy program and now have once again an up-to-date Portable FF running as my 4th backup browser.

@BenoitRen - there already are three Alpha versions of Seamonkey 2.0 and the beta1-pre is found on the Nightly builds: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/nightly/latest-trunk/ . I am using the March 24th nightly build and it is entirely stable. Under Vista 64bit, it runs like a mad man. I have yet to have it crash. So, you are probably correct that 2.0 will be out this summer.
