Keep in mind that by simply changing K-M's UA string you won't fool browser sniffing sites.
Depending on how browser sniffing is implemented basically it could become impossible to mask as IE.

go to browserspy with your IE8
that will show You Your systems IE8 User Agent String.

BTW. I am not sure about IE 8 because it is normally W3O/HTML standart compliant.
But IEs used to speak a different non standart JScript dialect and used other MS only non standarts - So e.g. Yahoo mail goes to error when You spoof IE. That is why K-Meleon do not anymore have/offer IE as predenfined choice.

Its a better idea to spoof Firefox that has the same JS and HTML engine as K-Meleon.

That's right.
The only question is how much and what kind of deviance tolerance M$ will implement nevertheless.
AFAIK every browser engine can at a certain limited extent understand code that isn't W3O/HTML standard compliant.

I agree (sorry if I sounded different), You can & IMHO should try - result depends on whether a non standart item is vital.

Expected Results:

NO GO after JScript errors!

Other things are less essential & You can possibly get positive results.
