I am too lazy to take IE off my computer. My only browser in use is K-Meleon. I have 1.1.6 for testing and 1.5.2 and 1.5.3 for general use. I have found no problems with 1.5.3 so I will likely remove 1.5.2 soon.

I use K-Meleon as my main browser, I have IE7 which I try not to use because of it's inherent security risks.
For a 2nd browser I use SWare Iron, it's based on Google chrome technology, I find this to be light on resources also.

Do I need to master Linux to use KM in windows.......coz I have a linux geeker patient who could customize KM to my needs??
Re: Browsers?

I don't understand that. K-Meleon is Windows based not Linux based.

I was die-hard Opera user for a very long time. I used Kmeleon as a backup if a site did not display correctly. After I felt Opera became a bit bloated I switched to KM full time. Maybe 2 years ago now. I have FF and IE available, but rarely use them. KM seems so light and simple now that the other browsers quite frankly all seem bloated. Just my opinion I suppose, as they have a much larger user base.

KmLite 1.1.2 updated to Gecko 1.8.1.21
I'll keep using KMLite as long as I can keep updating Gecko. Shame Al gave it up.

Read Fred's posts, he, alain and others swear that K-Meleon also makes a good constantly improving show on NIX under wine.

A shame that he did not support the dev team - but tried to make a one man show.
p.s. frankly, all have private chores impossible to muster time´constantly.

Ditto, plus OperaTor (Portable Opera + Tor anonymizing proxy), The World Browser (portable IE shell), and Orca (latest gecko engine full blown browser) -- you can tell I like variety.

Have been using SeaMonkey beta version 3.1b2 since I bought a Vista operating system. K-M gets along in Vista, but seemingly, not as happily as in XP. Still like K-M for some things, but this newer SeaMonkey works very smoothly.

Hmm, I'm going to have to disagree about Opera being bloated, although it doesn't feel as light as K-Meleon. I use Opera for heavy duty browsing, such as adult sites, and sites with a lot of javascript (e.g. digg). Opera seems more stable, and I like its inbuilt session manager and tab preview features.
I also have Google Chrome installed, although that's more of a novelty. It's even faster at loading javascript than Opera (Slashdot is a breeze with Chrome), but it does feel bloated.
I have Firefox installed for visitors, since I locked down IE impossibly
.
And I use K-Meleon for ordinary browsing. It's my most used application.

I have had a few conversations on this topic. It is useful to define 'bloated'. Most times bloated is referred to as an over-fat slow hunk o junk, much like Nero has become the last few years, or adobe.
The bloated I think many, but certainly I, refer to is that is has all the blades of a swiss army knife built in, and I just want a jack knife. So bloated as in a 'Suite' instead of 'just a browser'. Over at wilders, I merrily concede to some users that it is not bloated for them, because they use a large majority of the components in it's 'suite', like email client etc.
Opera is certainly a fine browser. If they had a version that was just a browser without all the bells and whistles, I would probably still use it as my primary. Or, now what KM has become, maybe not.

Not smart, no nerd, nor dev, but 57 y.o. user. Hope I may add some $ 0.01 too.
Depends IMHO what You want to do. & current development situation.
No browser is ideal for everything, for most jobs several good alternatives exist.
Iron (Google chrome code but not phoning home): Script heavy pages .
Firefox: many useful extensions (slow starter, surfing speed +/- = k-meleon).
Opera or SeaMonkey: / include mail, news. The later also homepage design.
Lunascape5: can use 3 of 4 Windows platform browsing engines to view pages (web design help).
Some real specialist browsers: Songbird: music, Balloon: geography, Fora-PR: translation, linguistic data.
IE: access to MS pages. I needed it to download my first real browser!
p.s. I started to use K-Meleon 2001, set as default 2003, after that I always have had other browsers installed for odd jobs. K-Meleon had minor glitches on my German Vista premium home.
Survived all OS: ME/2000/XP:home&pro/Vista/Win7B.
I even totally overcame the Vista problems! My solution I de-installed Vista.

Woh very versatile approach........
Does k-meleon works good with Vista as with XP?
Thanks.

I had no problems with it in vista on my laptop. I could have used a different browser because I have more RAM and a faster cpu but I am not leaving KM just because I have those things.

Reeko since I just did a fresh install of Vista office 2007 & updates after a low level format..........
I have a few queries........
1. Can I install k-meleon on it?
2. Does k-meleon updates automatically?
Thanks!

Re: Browsers?

1. You should be able to.
2. I stuck with KM 1.5.0 for the longest time and it asked me to upgade it when it started sometimes. So you do get notified but updates are not automatic
Re: Browsers?

Thanks Reeko.
Updates are similar to windows update alerts....correct?

Re: Browsers?

you just get a popup when you first start k-meleon. it just got updated so it will be awhile until it happens again.

K-Meleon update plugin checks updates once a week. You can download if You want to update.
p.s. Most here AFAIK do not want semi-automatik updates like Firefox.
The plugin can be shut down.
