desga2,

One thing I noticed is I had to restore one file:

C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\defaults\settings\menus.cfg

I had manually rearranged the file to make Web Search the top entry, so that had to be redone after running the update.

Updated you from what version?
You did a "Full K-Meleon" updated, yes it's?
Did you make a backup before manually or with Updater Backup?

The usual way to modified menus is in menus.cfg file in your KM profile.
If you did changes in default menus.cfg file this was overwrited when you selected Full K-Meleon update.

You have different solutions for avoid this in next updates:

- Do (export) your changes in KM profile menus.cfg file.
- Do "Gecko Only" updated next time, to preserve your changes in default configuration files (files aren't in profiles).
- Make a backup before (manually) or in Updater proccess with the Backup option and after updated restore your config files from backup.

desga2,

I keep a full zip backup for just such issues. I did try the Gecko only update first, then went for the full update to get the 1.5.3 user agent thing to show up. <wry grin> The Backup option is also nice, but haven't really used it. Just there as a "just in case" option. For whatever reason, probably habit, I'm used to grabbing files from my complete zip file when needed.

Hmmmm. Wonder if the changes I made to the main menus.cfg file can be put into the profile menus.cfg file instead?

You can change the Seamonkey UA string manually in file \K-Meleon\defaults\pref\I10n.js:
- Original 1.5.3 Seamonkey's US string:
pref("kmeleon.privacy.useragent2.string", "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.21) Gecko/20090403 SeaMonkey/1.1.16");
- Updated Seamonkey's UA string:
pref("kmeleon.privacy.useragent2.string", "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.22) Gecko/20090605 SeaMonkey/1.1.17");

To the changes that you made to the main menus.cfg file can be put into the profile menus.cfg check your menus.cfg to search changes and read this Documentation about it.

If after you read documentation and some test you don't know how to do it post your menus.cfg file or send me it by mail.

desga, i made slight change to the update page..i hope you don't mind

the change is due to an update to all pages to fix the blue stripe table on the left which didn't adhere to the rest of the page when zooming in or out..now it's fixed size and always meets the bottom of the page regardless of zoom in..this update also fixes visual errors in opera browser/ also makes it accessible in very old browsers like ie3. i like the idea of placing the main menus on the blue stripe but it's different from kmeleon homepage as the logo image doesn't zoom and its fixed size..meaning when zooming in the text will cause the stripe to expand and overlapping the image

i also made 2 templates to make it easy for anyone who wants to add more pages or edit existing pages..wiki is nolonger an option as sf is killing it and not allowing wiki apps

http://kmext.sf.net/template1.htm
http://kmext.sf.net/template2.htm

by the way..the update doesn't work with version 0.8.. it gives errors in couple of dlls

Hi! Thanks for reading, there's a lot to talk about this month.

In our last update, we shared our plan to divide SourceForge into two
separate user experiences: a functional, efficient place for developers to
create software and a usable, enjoyable place for users to discover and
evaluate FOSS.

We plan to deploy a new look and feel tomorrow, along with architectural
changes that will allow us to refine these two user experiences more
rapidly. This the first step, and there's a lot more to come. We hope you
like it.

I'm very proud to announce that SourceForge has acquired Ohloh
(http://ohloh.net). Ohloh has a lot of really cool data about the open
source projects you know and love. Go look, but if you're not careful
you'll spend hours there. Welcome to the SourceForge team, guys!

Remember when you had to wait two days for new projects to get approved?
Well, those days are over - projects are now created automatically on
request. We're still going through new projects and deleting the garbage,
we're just doing it on our own time.

As we continue to add support for popular open source development and
community tools, we're doing a little spring cleaning. The tools we wrote
almost ten years ago, our Document Manager, Discussion Forums, Diary+Notes,
and Task Manager, are being deprecated to make room for the new stuff.

More info: http://p.sf.net/sf-community/deprecation

We're also deprecating our Wikispaces wiki service, and we'd like to thank
the team over at Wikispaces for their support these past few years! If
you're a user of that service, please pay special attention to the
important notice below.

Thanks again for reading.

== June Project of the Month: Silex ==

Silex is an open source RIA that enables you to build Flash websites for
Flash Player 7, 8, 9, and 10. Silex is a new kind of CMS, a mix between
editing software like the Adobe Creative Suite and Wiki based software.

== July Project of the Month: Piwik ==

Piwik is open source web analytics software. It gives interesting reports
on your website visitors, your popular pages, the search engines keywords
they used, the language they speak and much more. Piwik aims to be an
alternative to Google Analytics.

More info: http://sourceforge.net/community/potm-200907/

== SourceForge Mail Alias Opt-Out ==

We provide all SourceForge users with e-mail aliases at
users.sourceforge.net that allow them to communicate without exposing their
real identity. Since we launched our service, the net has become a
different place; fighting spam has become an arms race, and, in spite of
our best efforts, our users sometimes receive spam via these mail aliases.

As we continue to fight the good fight against spam, we also want to
provide a few options. If you're frustrated by receiving spam via
SourceForge, you can opt out of your username@users.sourceforge.net mail
alias.

Your options include: a) accept all mail, the default for existing
accounts; b) accept mail from internal SourceForge hosts, like mailing
lists and SCM commit mails, the default for new accounts; and c) reject all
mail. The SourceForge staff, however, can still send you mail even if your
mail alias is disabled.

Update your setting here: http://sourceforge.net/account/

== Feature Deprecation: Wikispaces ==

For several years, the Wikispaces wiki offering at SourceForge.net filled
an important role for projects. SourceForge.net has changed direction in
how we serve development tools and project features moving forward -- we
are now focusing on leveraging Open Source applications through our Hosted
Apps platform.

To this end, we have begun planning for the deprecation of our
Wikispaces-based wiki offering, to occur sometime in July. We are
conducting a survey to determine the best way to serve the needs of
existing Wikispaces wiki users at SourceForge.net. Survey options:

1. Have the data migrated to Wikispaces.com
2. Have the data migrated to our Trac or MediaWiki hosted applications
3. Receive a dump of your Wikispaces data and plan your own migration
4. Discard the data

We will assess the result of the survey to determine which migration
options we should offer. As an existing user of the Wikispaces wikis on
SourceForge.net, we request that you to participate in this survey or
advocate your preference to the admin of the project whose wiki you have
been using.

Take the survey here: http://p.sf.net/sf-community/wikisurvey

yes..unfortunately, sf will no longer host wikis on their servers; new projects are not allowed to install wiki apps thingies .. old projects will need to migrate their wiki pages to one of those free wiki hosts..they have not set a deadline. this was in an email..maybe they'll change their minds if people complain

They are "deprecating" the Wikis (among other stuff)???

To Deprecate:

abuse, asperse, belittle, condemn, decry, degrade, denounce, detract, diminish; minimize, play down, pooh-pooh; belittle, disapprove, disfavor, disparage, frown upon, object.

(You can't make this stuff up.)

It's enough making a backup and then update.

If you are using the default user agent you don't need to do anything, if you have custom user agents, you can edit them in the file l10n.js in the folder defaults\pref.

No problem with updater web page at kmext. smiling smiley

About 0.8 version I didn't test it in any 0.x version but I think that the problem isn't an updated problem, is that old k-meleon.exe isn't compatible with this modern Geckos.

In my usual computer I haven't any version previous to 1.02. I'll have to extract someone from my old computer, if it want boot, to do some test.
But really my Updater wasn't made for previous version to 1.0.

i didn't think it ould work with pre 1.0 versions but it would have been very cool..yes, 0.8 and old ones have very different exes and dlls..i'm probably the only one still using 0.8 but it's mostly a secondary test browser because it's super fast. pre 1.0 versions are like notepad programs and very stable.. no site can break them, if they dont like a webpage they break it up instead grinning smiley

There are 0.9 versions that use 1.8 GRE but the update will IMHO not work.
I tried way back. NO go.

I don't know what is the full user agent for that Firefox version (probably it's included in KM 1.5.3 and I don't use (and or KM lite, but I don't use it either)) but for general purpose, the string for Firefox 3.x it's enough for any web service.
