Why I did not bother to check it the first time?

Once You knew the second part = ID_OPEN_LINK_IN_BACKGROUNDTAB of this You were able to redefine the accel for Your own liking via

Edit > Configuration > Accelerators

This gets to Your personal accel file which overrules the default file which must not be changed (= in ./defaults/settings/accel.cfg. And can be used to look up info locally).

possibly a bug - here it seems to start the loading but does not do it.
Maybe try to relocate to another key action?

I never use it during normal surfing - I right click an chose... normally it is background window for me.

I only open things in background tabs. Am I the only one that gets annoyed when opening a tab and it switches to that page? I see links and open them up as i read and article so that is why i do that.
