HOW Do We Make All Typefonts BOLD?
Posted by: Just Me

Due to vision problems, it is getting harder and harder to use K-Meleon, because the default typefont is so "thin" and hard to read. We would like to:
*change the default font to SYSTEM, which is a thicker font; and
*change the default font to BOLDFACE, which makes it easier for us to read.

Can anybody figure out how to do this?

We are aware that we can use the Ctrl-+ to ENLARGE type, but that doesn't really work for us, because we have to hit it about FOUR times to make it reach the BOLD state, and by then, the font is SO LARGE that it messes up the page formatting. We would prefer to change, as noted above, to SYSTEM typeface and a BOLD setting.

Any way to do this?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Menue: Edit -> Configuration > User Defined Style Sheet.

AFAIK open, insert and save.

body { background-color: #FAE0C5 !important; font-weight: bold !important; }

p.s. I am not absolutely certain about the html code, I suffered a brain injury since I learned to write html; And I did not do much html since my accident.

Here You can also bend font size and color.

You can also bent font size via Menue: Edit -> Browser Configuration.

Guenter,

Default is 16 pixes size? But is there a macro that lets you change sizes (etc.) on the fly and could be loaded up on the main menu (aside from Zoom out/in)?

BTW, thanks for the info on changing font to bold. I changed it with this small modification from your post.

body { background-color: white !important; font-weight: bold !important; }

Hey cool, I just played around with it too grinning smiley

The bold formatting works perfectly!

It only seems the background doesn't work on ALL pages, e.g. not in tables, so I replaced the "body" with "*"

* { background-color: #FAE0C5 !important; font-weight: bold !important; }

For the font type and size there are also some settings here:
Edit / Preferences / Page Display / Fonts

There can be set a minimum size for the fonts, but somehow it doesn't always seem to work or probably it's me. Never mind, there's another way:

Type "about:config" in address bar (or Edit/Config./Browser Config.)
Type "minimum" in the second line and wait a second, then doubleclick on the two entries and change the size, e.g. to 14 smiling smiley
Unlike the style sheet this setting works instantly without a restart.

Oh man, but now I gotta switch back to normal display, 'cause all this bold and the uniform tables without any different colors in their lines somehow are stressing MY eyes, LOL! grinning smiley

Just Me You 'd probably have to do something like they do in the site specific css.

User defined styles for the most common tags You want to alter.

Its only a start to know how it is done, now You can do it for the rest You want to alter. Grab a css from some page and see what tags they defined - & redefine them You way.

p.s. Thx siria, I learned something for my future html - I will star * You for it smiling smiley

Fantastic! Thanks, guys! We now have BOLD FACED fonts and the BEIGEY background on the pages, which helps things a lot!! No more painfully WHITE and lots of nice THICK BLACK LETTERING! :-D Sure helps the ol' EYEBALLS!

We're so glad we can KEEP our favorite browser (K-M) with these modifications. Was afraid we'd have to go back to Opera or something else... We much prefer K-M because of its speed and ease of use.

Many THANKS to all who helped!
Cheers!
:-)

siria,

Don't get where to change the size setting in about config. I typed minimum in the filter line and nothing came up?

Type "about:config" in address bar (or Edit/Config./Browser Config.)
Type "minimum" in the second line and wait a second, then doubleclick on the two entries and change the size, e.g. to 14 smiling smiley

F2 -> Page Display Settings -> Minimum Font Size

A number of ways to do it but this is easiest. grinning smiley

Oops, odd... Perhaps it's only shown in about:config if there was first a setting in F2?

Anyway, glad for "Just Me" that things work better now :-))
