K-Meleon icon

Anyone else hate the default K-Meleon icon - that goofy lizard face?

I made a replacement icon based on the circular one used on this website but with slightly brighter colors.

It was easy to change the shortcut icons but, at the moment, I can't figure out how to change the default icon in the exe.

There's a growing thread with icons in the skins forum smiling smiley

As ndebord writes there, try changing the icon in the skin folder...

LOL!!! grinning smiley grinning smiley grinning smiley
I join you there Doon!! That's the one that I love too, which is also in the little icons. But what I hate is the round one on the left side of this page tongue sticking out smiley I find it really ugly, perhaps more people would try KM if the cutie one were used as the symbol for KM?

Ha ha ha, I'm out voted, OK.

I completely overlooked skins - sorry - I'll have a play around with it.

hehe, I was just trying to let little goofy lizard face speak for himself, but yeah, I like him. In fact, I just posted a link to 2000 different images of him in the thread referenced above.

OK, I've customized the icons to my satisfaction (with the exception of the Loader in the system tray but I'm not bothered about that). For the record, here are my notes:

K-Meleon.png is my "original" graphic

KM0.gif is the graphic at 256 colors

From KM0.gif are derived the 16, 32 & 48 px icons

KM3.ico is a multi-icon resource containing the 16, 32 & 48 px icons (see attached file).

Procedure...

Duplicate C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\skins\Phoenity as C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\skins\Custom

Copy KM3.ico to main.ico and overwrite it in C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\skins\Custom

K-Meleon: Preferences > GUI Appearance set the skin to Custom

Windows: Registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\k-meleon.exe\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\Program Files\\K-Meleon\\skins\\Custom\\main.ico"

Windows: Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types:
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol = Advanced > Change Icon
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy = Advanced > Change Icon
HTM File = Restore, Advanced > Change Icon, Change > Always use K-Meleon
(HTML File = Restore, Advanced > Change Icon, Change > Always use K-Meleon)

Change other shortcuts using right-click > Properties > Change Icon

Forgot this:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\k-meleon.exe

In the right-pane, create a new Expandable String Value (REG_EXPAND_SZ) named "TaskbarGroupIcon" and set it's value to:

%Programfiles%\K-Meleon\skins\Custom\main.ico

Disable and then re-enable "Group similar taskbar buttons" (Taskbar and Start Menu Properties)

Uah... slightly complicated, but you really wanted to replace that icon absolutely *everywhere*! You sure know a lot about windows! I'll have to remember that thread if one day I need those tips smiling smiley

On a sidenote, you left out the other skins ;-) Try putting the icon in skins/default, then renaming or deleting it in the other ones. From what I understand, everything that's missing in a skin folder, will be replaced with the element in the default folder, provided it exists there. But sure, you can just as well overwrite the icons in their own skin folder with the custom icon grinning smiley

Off topic, but I wonder if those "URL" types may have been forgotten in the "set KM default browser" option, since quite often people have probs with that function working only partly...?

The fire-breathing lizards simply ROCK and that's the end of discussion!

Yes. My own "888 Gold" skin has better version of the "round lizard" you just tried to make above, as well as IE/Windoze "globe internet" icon IIRC (not because I didn't like lizard, but just to have more choice for the ungrateful lizard-haters like you ;-) )

The respective files (16x16, 24x24, 32x32 - ICO & BMP format) are in the ZIP file.

Just playing around with some icon editors.

Great minds think alike  ... no, it's just a real photo. I cropped it and slighlty enhanced contrast and gamma grinning smiley.

Hi,

I have been having a problem with the icons for htm and html files lately that aren't attached to FrontPage.
This is how they currently show up:

Just as generic Windows program icons.

The sequence suggested by melonhead doesn't do anything for me.

I am using K-M 74 beta 4, and the file associations wizard (from 1.5.x) doesn't help either.

Please let me know if you have a solution!

Thomas

P.S.
I'm so glad I can upload files to Phorum now!!!
This is awesome!

Klassic skin users, just for fun smiling smiley
The little lizard @16x16px, menu.bmb (transparent) with the little lizard.

I had to rename menu.bmp to menu.png in order to be accepted as attachment.
After download it has to be renamed back to menu.bmp

Thanks James.
IMHO it's rather some playing around than work. smiling smiley

I've uploaded the transparent lizard @125x125px so it can be downsized to any desired size.
Since I was at it I also made the K-Meleon logo transparent. Inserted in a webpage whatever its background color or background image is, it will look better - IMO at least.
I've made two screenshots from test-HTMLs to show what I mean.
