OK, guys, you've been at it for quite some time now, like busy beavers, posting lots of fascinating info about freeware gems.

So what's I want now is a Top Ten list!

Oxeleon is great... I also like FileSplitter, from the list. Very nice for big files. Hadn't used anything newer than the original DOS chunker.

Yogi,

Yes, saw that one. Like the concept, not sure I wish to put in the effort though.

Juju,

Ah, Linux... have played with it off and on over the years, but never was able to replace the tools I use in Windows and at work. So admirable, but not for me. OpenOffice I've had too, from time to time.. but what a monster of a suite and there too I ended up with Office 2000 and converters. Found myself in the constraints of work and customary software.

As for K-meleon, great, so long as Early Blue Theme works! <g,d&r>

@ndebord,

I have found all the tools I used under Windows, or equivalent. The hardest has been to find a tool to correct wavfiles ripped from LPs. Now I have one, and as Windows has destroyed a 40 Go HD of ripped music, I have replaced definitively XP by Ubuntu.

For OpenOffice, it's a great suite, and what guys often forget, when they say that Ooo is not as quick as MsOffice, it's that Windows opens a lot of dll to accelerate MsOffice opening. They think that it's Windows which is long to open, instead of thinking that Microsoft can be unfaithful on the reason of time used when initializing.

I always love K-Meleon, and I will continue, even Firefox under Linux (and perhaps under Ubuntu) offers some nice functions, as print the page in pdf file (no need to connect to specific website, to have a pdf version of a complete page.

Under Linux, even there are some limitations, it a pure bliss to use K-Meleon, which is as quick as, and probably more, Firefox.

In Windows if you use CutePDFWriter, you can print anything to PDF from files or from the web. Snagit (commercial) allows you to print to file or printer in a variety of formats and you use the scrolling window feature there to do a lot of the stuff.

P.S.
A few of them are shareware, but can be used
in Linux with wine for a longer time,
creating a new .wine configuration, possibly
renaming the older .wine folder to
e.g. .wine2, and renaming it back to .wine
after having used the shareware.
In Windows they would cost something after
the evaluation period. But not much.

Leaving browsers out of it smiling smiley, must haves for me include:

strokeit (ABSOLUTE MUST) - windows mouse gestures app
qttabbar - tabs for windows explorer
pop peeper - checks all email accounts
launchy - like an address bar for your desktop to open anything on your PC
mouse extender - easy way to launch apps with your mouse instead of cluttering the desktop w/icons
yahoo widgets(resource hog I know, but still love it) - I use 10 of them
7zip - self-explanatory
winwall - excellent wallpaper changer
styler toolbar - windows toolbars skinning app
taskbar activate - great when viewing apps in fullscreen
extended task manager - self-explanatory
GridMove - almost forgot about this customizable windows snapping app. Very handy when comparing macro module files. Better than Win7's snap feature. More options.

Dailymotion Video Downloader (only because I can download files from public computers even when ESET Antivirus is blocking others downloaders and when Keepvid and others can't download these videos because comp does not have Java installed or because they can't recognize video for some reason or another altought they claim they can).

I am still waiting for universal downloader where I could download everything I want from any site. I do not think this is possible though.
