What is with this Forum?????

I live in Australia, and it is well-known Oz has the slowest internet in the world.

BUT. Every browser I have used to get this forum (Opera 10, 11, 12; IE 5, 6, 9; K-M 1.5, 2.6; Iron 27) has rendered it reasonably quickly, certainly in tune with (for example) Avast.com, Whirlpool.net.au, CNET... Certainly no more than 500ms to get it on-screen, usually much less, not even time to blink.

But since I installed K-M74, this site is excruciatingly slo-o-o-o-wwww. Up to 60 seconds is not unusual. Trying to post in a different thread it sat there for so long I grew impatient and did my usual "hurry-up" trick, rapidly clicking on the "POST" button. Phorum came back with this error:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/5aj3pczh929ty8i/BadBehaviour.png?dl=0

Now I cannot see anything in K-M74 that would make it slow. But while testing my New Age Useragent String I also visted http://www.headerviewer.com/, "HTTP Header Viewer". It told me:

HTTP/1.1 403 Bad Behavior

I did a search on Ixquick, and found these sites:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=932498

This last link is very interesting. Does anybody else have trouble with slow response times on this forum?

Gordon.

Yeah since a few months it started getting more and sluggish! GRRR... Sometimes needs forever to load a page, then it shows the guru meditation, or even a completely blank page. Then at other times it suddenly works quite normal again!

I suspect it's their server overload, since I'm still on KM1.6 and the same old computer.
Then again, I had to switch providers some months back, and am now on a 3G connection, which IS somewhat slower. But still - it's mostly just this forum that falls into a coma, only sometimes other sites too. So perhaps my connection isn't quite innocent too? But at other times all suddenly works normal again - I don't get it.

The funny thing though is, that guenter complained heavily already a year earlier about the forum just about freezing all the time! It was a long, long time until it first started for me too, before I kept wondering if it was his provider. Really weird!

Seems not due to Km74 ... same problem with Firefox under Linux
qupzilla under Linux ... is really faster. Perhaps a gecko problem ?

But I notice that the speed can change very quickly ...

A+

To be honest, I cannot see any way KM74 could have such a problem/bug. It is almost certainly a coincidence:

It was a long, long time until it first started for me too...

However, I must suspect the BadBehavior script noted in my first post above. The various sources do mention time-outs as a side-effect. How long has SourceForge had this script?

EDIT: K-Meleon Wiki Does Not have this "Bad Behavior" script visible in its headers:
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Cache-Control: no-cache, must-revalidate, private
Connection: close
Date: Tue, 04 Nov 2014 12:11:21 GMT
Pragma: no-cache

Last-Modified: Tue, 04 Nov 2014 11:36:21 GMT

Content-Version: 14
X-Server: ewiki/R1.02b (Linux; PHP/5.3.3) EmailProtect/2.1
X-Varnish: 625835839
And the Wiki is very much faster than the Forum.

But if I understand the setup properly, The K-Meleon Forum is set up by (or at least under the control of) SourceForge.
END EDIT.

Gordon.

"Bad Behavior" script counts double posting. For example if You move back to edit an inital post without hitting the edit button first. Seems that bots try that often.

Once You have used the edit button You can go back and forth to re-edit.

For me. Forum is sluggish when the US are in the Net and no matter which browser.

And for me the errors are the same with all browsers.

It was like that periodically before.sad smiley

I have found that opening everything in a new tab gets over the sluggishness, which "sort of" looks like it "may possibly be" something to do with rendering. But rendering in all browsers? No.

Oh well, I'll just use Ctrl-click and open in new tabs.

Gordon.

Perhaps that helps sometimes, but then again, I nearly always open links to background (with middleclick), and when the first tab hangs the new ones are usually hanging too :-/

Yes, I too wish the GNRU would finish his meditation episodes more quickly.

This is not bad behavior because the new bug tracker have the same problem. I've added bb to the forum only to prevent some spam and it's supposed to improve performance. Sourceforge host may have too much memory limitation for heavy scripts, or they just can't handle the load.

How about switching its hosting to a different provider?
