The future of Firefox is … Chrome

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/04/11/future_of_firefox_is_chrome/

I don't fully understand this article, but it looks like they're saying Gecko is going away, reducing the Web engine ecosystem to two? (KHTML/Webkit/Blink & Trident??)

Perhaps someone else has a better grasp on this and how it would affect K-Meleon.

For now it's just an experiment of building new [out-of-Gecko] engine by the small group of developers, separated from the main pool of Mozilla team.

It's not official. It's not unofficial. It's future depends on what would be done.

Too much time spent by too many using browsers these days - more than any other type of app:
Browsers turning into lobotomized chrome-zombies all around.

When that final nail is driven and ALL there is to use are chrome-zombies, it will be time for me to cease internet usage.

"Chrome is for bike fenders, NOT browsers."

it can't happen, both are different web browser by different companies, and firefox is way better than chrome because it eats less ram.
