What are you three favorite operating systems of all time? For whatever reason, these OSes captured your imagination and heart. You can list a specific version, or not. I'll start:

1) FreeBSD
2) BeOS
3) Windows 2000

DR DOS was my favorite for many years.

  1. My favorite OS used to be MS-DOS. Not too much can be done with it nowadays, but at least it was simple, stable and consistent. When something went wrong, I always knew why; it was either an error on my part, or a bug in some third-party software. There was actually a web browser that ran on DOS, "NetTamer", with a text-oriented interface; it was not functional on sites with forms or JavaScript.
  2. Windows is the only graphical OS I've ever used, never having tried Linux, Mac or Android. Among the Windows versions, then, 3.1 was my favorite due to its simplicity, but it wouldn't be of much use today.
  3. So now my favorite is the one I'm currently using, Windows 7. grinning smiley

Very cool topic - thanks for posting it !!!

I'm sort of an OS junkie - or even maybe sort of an OS 'mechanic' after tweaking up so many for all the decades since before PCs arrived ?!?

The past answers from me, 1st:
My all-time favourite thus far was win2kpro - nothing has ever been more acceptable as a reliable & stable mainstream platform IMO; before that it was NT4 for the same reasons - and before that it was IBM PC-DOS (with Geoworks on top of it).

OS/2 Warp (in the blue-spine, very rare edition) was really terrific, but too unknown to be more than a very nice curiosity.

In the present - though I do use XP for some windows apps - it IS tolerable, but not in any way a favourite as win2kpro was before it.

My current, absolute hands-down, wonderful favourite is Ubuntu Mate, followed by an unknown called PrathamOS, just because it has all sorts of goodies included (like AndroVM...!!).

Total UN-favourites bear mention here...those that I udderly REFUSE to allow on my PCs (these are the names I refer to them by, hope they're not too vague)=>
WinMe;
Veeester (or just call that one WinMeII if you prefer);
Ache;
Ache point one;
Ache point two (commonly known by the number '10').

Additionally=>
Though I did recycle truckloads of ancient Macs for poor folks - for years, as a free program to help kids - I have zero use for the post-Motorola faux-apple OS or the re-badged PCs that it runs on with wintel CPUs in 'em.

There...that about sums me up in a nutshell !!

I use macOS for personal use, and Windows 10 at work. Both of them are easy to use and intuitive, although I prefer macOS and Ubuntu (which I have a virtual machine for) for software development.
