honey pot or not?

There is a wireless router in my area that is not password protected. Titled," No cost connection", what are the odds this router is a honey pot for nefarious data collection? Or is someone giving disadvantaged internet users a freebie?

But I'd use Google!

There are some vacation room rental places in or near a random place called:

Ikšķile Municipality in Latvia. Advert: " Free wi fi internet connection and LCD TV set with multi-channel cable TV are included."

Anyway. If You have a Laptop drive around and find out how far the signal reaches.
It used to be a hobby around here some years ago. Find open free WiFi.

If it is around such a place - it is for customers but no honey pot.

Maybe You can use it for free or ask them what they want as fee.

Else You try to find whether Your town has a free WiFi project.

In my home town Hannover - there is one. So here You see if You can connect.
Or ask Free WiFi project people for their help.

Else You look whether there is around a public or commercial free WiFi like library, pub or...

They do not run honey pots.

In my home town Zurich speaks the town management about a project for a public and commercial "free" WiFi. The costs would be payd by a flood of advertisements to the users. Also the questions about the privacy in its whole complexity are even more advisable than else in such network.

IPv6 stateless address autoconfiguration (SLAAC) uses the MAC address for generating the address.

IPv6 privacy and security implications.
