What do you think about post-Netscape Navigator derivative browsers (based on NN source code) ?
I mean I like to use some of them i.e. (id est):

0. Netscape Navigator (9.0.0.6 latest)
1. K-Meleon
2. Firefox (pre 48)
3. SeaMonkey
4. Basilisk
5. IceCat
6. Palemoon
7. Retrozilla
etc.
I still using them even today smiling smiley

Wow - that is quite the list !!
I am always curious as to what will run in XP SP2.

Didn't know there was still any such thing as NN - when did that last get anything done with it ?!?
K-Meleon is what I use the most daily;
No longer use straight-up Firefox at all;
Tried SeaMonkey, but it is sluggish IMO;
Basilisk requires w7, which I do not have;
IceCat...no ideas about it ??
Palemoon - not since mr. moonbeam dropped SP2 support;
Retrozilla...just grabbed it actually - will check it out !!

Basilisks by roytam1 do not need Win7.

As well as his mods of Borealis - the most likes of NN in modern UXP (Goanna4)-world

Up until about 2019, I was using KM as my primary browser. The newer KM76 & KM77 I've had many more website incompatabilities with sites that worked fine with earlier KM versions.

I used Palemoon off and on for a few years. The past year, the NewMoon flavor has become my primary browser. And, I still use KM77 to a much lessor extent. I like the way bookmarks, for my heavy usage, works better than KM--1. In KM bookmarks can't be added while the Edit Bookmarks is already open; in NM can. 2. In KM to view bookmarks modified dates, I have to go to each bookmark; whereas in NM the dates for each bookmark show on one page all at once.

I've used/tried FF pre-48 when I've had website incompatabilities <.01%. And, use FF52 for such instances now.

Haven't tried the other flavors.

if you just want a browser-only with navigator user interface, bnavigator is a choice.

but if you want a full seamonkey replacement, go with my build of iceape.

Currently I'm using:

Mostly:
LibreWolf, SeaMonkey

Often:
BNavigator, K-Meleon, Basilisk

Not so often:
IceCat, Palemoon/New Moon, MyPal

What are your choices ?

Having a plain, simple, uncluttered, non-cartoonish browser is ALWAYS best IMO.

Of the (too many) things available I consider the not-so-new version of Basilisk to be best.
The latest version I looked at from it's 'new owner' refused to open correctly under Ubuntu Mate, I posted about this at their forum - and got excuses (only) as replies - no real fix.
I may try it again, but I'm in no hurry.

2nd to that, I find Librewolf to be incredibly good & usable, especially as it can be had as an APPIMAGE.
It is best for looking at any YT content (which sadly stalls Basilisk badly) & is quite light & quick.

3rd...what I'm using right now - Mypal via WINE, which I'll keep using as a convenience as long as possible.

I have a bunch of others near to hand, but seldom use those others at all.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, please:
B-Nav has no Linux release, right ??

It's always good to see that I'm not the only one with browser D.I.D. Most often for me is Firefox. I also run K-Meleon, especially on an older laptop that I honestly don't pull out as often now. I really like that I can use the same tight user.js across the versions of KM and FF. I use Edge for a couple web apps that I need for work. I keep Edge as vanilla as possible to avoid to goofing up the web apps. Librewolf sounds dope, but it also doesn't sound like it offers much more than a curated user.js and no Pocket.

I tinker with other Mozilla/Netscape family browsers like Mypal, New Moon, Roytam's Serpent, and SeaMonkey, doing things like forcing them to install extensions and share profiles to see what happens. I've long had an interest in hypertext and how technology impacts writing, so it's interesting to try out ancient text-based browsers and the historically significant browsers. I recently fired up the first public alpha release of Phoenix 0.1 and it rendered this website pretty well. I tried out the early releases of KM while writing a Wikipedia article about the browser, and added the links onto the DownloadsArchive page here. I tried to get Galeon going on Linux but GNOME/gtk must have changed too much because I had no luck. GNOME Web now is on webkit, one of the last browsers outside of Apple to rely on it. And it's always fascinating to run a page through the old IE engines and see how scrambled it comes out. But I don't know if this stuff counts as using a web browser or maybe just abusing them

In general you should edit XUL's rdf-files (inside XUL) to make them compatible with apps other than firefox itself.

So take ABprime for example (it's created by the same dev as Borealis Navigator), look inside its install.rdf and find that section:
<em:targetApplication>
      <Description>
        <!-- Borealis (Navigator) -->
        <em:id>{a3210b97-8e8a-4737-9aa0-aa0e607640b9}</em:id>
        <em:minVersion>0.9.7335a1</em:minVersion>
        <em:maxVersion>*</em:maxVersion>
      </Description>
    </em:targetApplication>

You should add this block to install.rdf of your needed classic extension, keeping the right structure of this file. Use something like Total Commander (or free Double Commander) with 7z-plugin to seamless opening XUL files treating them like zip-archives they really are. Or just rename .xul to .zip and open it with your favorite archiver or file manager, change\edit install.rdf and repack it mafing then .xul again
