I'm still not sure here, are you losing Favorites, or Bookmarks?

Bookmarks.html is in Your (old) profile - Windows search. You can copy the file to a new Profile or different Gecko.

Dell took over my computer to get rid of an annoying popup which i couldnt delete. When the had finished, all my favorites on my yahoo Internet home page had disappeared

what are favourites on yahoo home page? is it like myspace or facebook digg this whatsit share thingy? try logging on to yahoo.. it could be a cookie issue.

I'm brand new at this, lost all my favorites with Internet Explorer, please help

Sorry it is too long ago that I used IE. What I would check & do?

Programs sometime break try to install new IE.

If You did not delete them they are still in Your Windows user profile next to the folder Application Data - Link gives You an idea where to look for it.

Favorites are in the profile that You used before You lost them. I would search with a file manager or windows search.

Favorites are files. Favorites have file extension .url.

You can copy/move the favorites/files to other places.

If You deleted the Favorites (files) by accident You can try to restore the files.

You can get programs to do "unerase/undelete" for free.

For K-Meleon You activate the favorites plugin that makes that K-meleon can find and use Internet Explorer favorites. K-Meleon plugin gets the info from Your system. With its help You can also search and use the favorites.

Try EDIT - PREFERENCES - K-MELEON PLUGINS - IE FAVORITES. Put a check in the box for enable support ... and restart KM.

How To Install New Version of K-Meleon WITHOUT TO LOST the Bookmarks?

1)- Download the file of the New Version.
2)- Open the file -Open the K-Meleon Install Wizard-
3)- On the Step -"Choose Components"- "Select components to Install" - UNCHECK THE OPTION { }MULTIUSER PROFILES"

IF you INSTALLED the New Version, and lost the Bookmarks, then REINSTALL the New Version de K-Meleon, BUT DONT FORGET, "UNCHECK THE OPTION { }MULTIUSER PROFILES"

Not quite correct - if you're really talking about FAVORITES (as in Microsoft Internet Explorer "Favorites"), it doesn't matter at all if the browser has multiple user setup (with profiles outside), or single user setup (with one or more profiles inside KM program folder=portable version). The "Favorites" are always outside anyway, not really a part of this browser, and KM finds their path automatically. All that's necessary is to enable the favorites plugin again in Edit>Preferences>Plugins.

But people often refer to "Bookmarks" as favorites too, and if this is meant, and people setup K-Meleon as a portable version, as you describe, that means it has the new profile inside the program folder, and the effect will be quite the opposite: Completely new, empty profile, no bookmarks And everyone going panicky, LOL!

But not to worry, in that case the bookmarks are simply in the old profile, they are not deleted - unless you had the great idea to "UNinstall" the browser first before updating it. Uninstalling means "throwing everything away", so don't wonder. Just for the record, this goes for "bookmarks" and "hotlist", which are stored inside the KM profile, NOT for "favorites", which are not part of the browser, except that it shares them with IE.
So, to update the browser, do it any way you want, just not UNinstall it first. If you don't know much about your computer, you may have a bit trouble locating your old profile again, but it will certainly not be lost.

If someone stumbles over this thread BEFORE updating, I'd recommand this for safety freaks:
Click Edit>Configuration>Profile directory, and write up the path, just in case.
Go one step upwards in this directory, and make a copy of your KM profile folder.
Locate your k-meleon program folder, and make a copy of that one too.
If you are using one of the default skins (klassic or phoenity), and IF you have modified something, rename that folder to e.g. "Phoenity(mine)", so it gets not overwritten.
Then download the new KM version and unzip it inside the old KM program folder.

Single- or multiuser depends from your preferences. It only decides whether the profiles will be stored inside the program folder (=portable), or outside along with your other stuff like "my documents" and such. Be careful with Vista and 7, they will require you to give yourself writing rights manually, especially if the profile is inside the program folder. (Personally I'd just create an own folder "c:/proggies/" or such for own programs, to reduce those unbearable writing rights problems with "c:/programs/" :cool Looks like some people even needed to restart windows to be graciously granted the right to use new programs in those systems.

Okay, that's it, start the updated browser now. If you chose "multi-user", tell it to use your renamed personal skin "Phoenity(mine)". Option is in first tab in Preferences. Restart again.

If you chose "single-user", the new profile will probably be empty, and you'll have to manually copy the contents of the old profile into the new one, inside the program folder. When this is done, same procedure as above, start browser, set your personal skin, and restart.

Why have my favourites disappeared?

Windows crash -> HDD check by scandisk.

& the damaged sections btw their damaged files are written to an error log file.
These files are AFAIK affected/damaged because they are in use during the crash.

K-Meleon files affected are in declining frequency:
1.) profile.ini,
2.) prefs.js and
3.) bookmarks.html.
The resulting problems can be fixed normally.

Disappeared IE favorites = 1.) or more often 2.)

Fix: F2 -> IE Favorites set check to activate IE Plugin support & restart K-Meleon.

where are my favorites?

I CHANGED TO A NEW VERSION OF AOL AND LOST MY FAVORITRS. I AM SURE THEY ARE STILL THERE BUT WHERE?

This the the K-Meleon browser forum. Are You sure that You lost K-Meleon's plugin support for IE's Favorites by installing a new AOL version?

Anyway:

IE Favorites are in Your Windows Profile Data Folder - its default name varies with You more language & setup choices

%USERPROFILE% = name of active user

= usually C:\Documents and settings\%USERPROFILE%\Favorites in English.

IF AOL is a software that has independent favorites?

Applications store data in:

C:\Documents and settings\%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Name of Application\


For less common Windows versions look here and Name of Application can be AOL, Firefox any.

Why can't someone just answer my question w/o going thru. all this?

I have had my favorites listed on ALO and they are GONE!! I do not like the changes AOL has changed!! AOL is now NOT MY FAVORITE!!!

I cannot find my favourites folder in the toolbar.

I cannot find and bring up favourites on my computer. They have suddenly disappeared.

Press F2 to bring up preferences. Check to see that the Favorites plugin is enabled. Within the Favorites plugin page is a tab for the Favorites toolbar. If you are looking for that make sure it is enabled. Also look under view menu to see if favorites toolbar is checked.

I lost all of my favourites when google chrome was installed. Please help
