K-MELEON v.7x+ supports for Windows XP with SP2

Here will be a collection of links about KM v.7x on XP with SP2.

About minimum requirements to run KM on older platforms, you can learn from this thread:
http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?19,144876,144877#msg-144877 (see whole topic)

General issues are considered here: (sample solution / method of solution)
http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?19,143253,143937#msg-143937
and (more detail)
http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?19,143253,143901#msg-143901 (and below)

IMPORTANT ADDITION: if you are using SP2 - just pack suggested above.
See video example: in example used russian interface, but it does not affect on meaning.

...
Or one of original updates proposed in review (KB936235-v2 or KB944340).

Plus, in case of problems, check (and if necessary, delete) the old backup KERNEL32.DLL in DLL cache (%windir%\system32\dllcache). Also, if possible, is recommended to disable the so-called system file protection.

As variant https://www.technipages.com/enable-disable-wfp , and more advanced variant:
http://techgenix.com/tweaking-xp-windows-file-protection-sp2/ .

And once again, ALWAYS( ! ) make backups !

If you are using XP SP1 or SP0 you also need to add the following files from SP2 (or SP3):
advapi32.dll
clbcatq.dll
comctl32.dll
comdlg32.dll
comres.dll
crypt32.dll
ctype.nls
dnsapi.dll
gdi32.dll
geo.nls
hnetcfg.dll
imagehlp.dll
imm32.dll
iphlpapi.dll
locale.nls
msasn1.dll
mscms.dll
msimg32.dll
msvcrt.dll
mswsock.dll
netapi32.dll
ntdll.dll
ntmarta.dll
ole32.dll
oleaut32.dll
psapi.dll
rpcrt4.dll
samlib.dll
setupapi.dll
shell32.dll
shlwapi.dll
sortkey.nls
sorttbls.nls
unicode.nls
user32.dll
userenv.dll
usp10.dll
uxtheme.dll
version.dll
winmm.dll
winrnr.dll
winspool.drv
winsta.dll
wintrust.dll
wldap32.dll
ws2_32.dll
ws2help.dll
wshtcpip.dll
wsock32.dll
wtsapi32.dll
xpsp2res.dll

Without these files (for SP1 and SP0) KM will not work.
The files should be on their own places (or in PATH). Or you can install SP2 / SP3.

Solution of the problem of start of bild of KM after 2018-01-13:

Wow.
A new build for the new year, and all the help in the other very lengthy thread.

It has been weeks since I checked here so had no clue about any of it !!
Since email notification is broken, no emails to remind me.

Thanks here to those who have added good info for SP2 users like me.

I have in the past tried changing the kernel file to the SP3 version and got BSODs due to driver conflicts with the attendant headaches until I switched it back & repaired the damages inflicted by trying to get the drivers right for it.

Most of my gripes about all things SP3 related resolve to how it removes so much control from the user - and seems unstoppable when it chooses to update drivers, like it or not.

All the above being said - I would like to know if other diehard SP2 users here have made this change to the kernel file with ZERO troubles afterwards, please ??

Presumably if I did that, and changed the LAV DLL files, then the latest build will run for me and play videos, etc. OK, yes ??

Thanks for this separate thread for SP2 users !!!

Thanks here to those who have added good info for SP2 users like me.

The disadvantages that come with SP3 can IMHO be deactivated with XP antispy.

Another powerful toolset get the XP behavior You want: Process Exploerer and autoruns by Sysinternals - bundled with other good service programs in a suite.

Sysinternals has been bought by MS some yeras ago.

@smallhagrid

First of all, make a complete copy of your system partition! It will save from headaches and empty wasting time. Historically, I recommend this http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/index.htm .
v.1.40 - 1.41. The latest versions have specific use on older OS and AF drives.
But You can use what more like.

Also nice to have a boot repair disk (like XPE). After this, any experiment, even in case of problems, will not cause difficulties.

When in doubt, You can start with the official updates from M$ (KB936235-v2 or KB944340). The second update M$ produces less garbage than the first. I can provide detailed logs.

If you decide to change only the kernel, you can view the video (~152 Kcool smiley on link from first post of thread (as it works).

Again, do not be lazy to do an image of the entire system partition, it's your peace of mind and nerves.

Hello Again Hermes and Guenter.
Thanks Again for Your Works and Assistances !!

I use drivesnapshot on a regular basis to image ALL my partitions as well as having BartPE as a local boot option, and other good tools for when things may not go well.

A favourite tool of mine is the external USB drive adapter which allows spare HDDs to be used like USB sticks (only bigger !!).

XP antispy has been a part of my OS choices since it arrived, as well as Process Lasso and other utilities to monitor/warn of unwanted changes that keep things running very well for my system.

The system which is my 'daily driver', whether used directly or via VM is very stripped down - minus all the excess cruft that m$ saw fit to ship it with.

I may just bring out an older notebook and experiment on that a bit to see what works well - what doesn't - and altogether how well it works for me.

An observation of mine:
It has been very helpful to me having a background starting in the pre-DOS era as well as an enduring interest in Linux;
These older learnings allow me to see & make simple optimizations which may look useless to others, but when all done, make a system very fast, stable & reliable.

Totally agree! smiling smiley If use OS (by M$) without any additional processing this like losing no less than half of resources.
...
My current OS (on HDD) not more than ~512 MB (for 2K3 DC, ~400 MB for XP, no more 2 GB for Windows 7, 2K8 DC ~1.5 Gcool smiley. And everything works like a clock (for years).

I installed the mentioned KB936235-v2. The kernel32.dll is currently version 5.1.2600.3243, October 29 2007. During KM 77 starting, the system crashes; I've had no problems with system crashes other than starting KM 77.

Have you seen video from first post of this topic?
Can you replicate experience on a virtual machine?

Theoretically, errors can be with a sufficiently littered system.

Have you installed windows 10?

Regardless: I strongly recommend that you try everything on clean virtual machine first,
or capture / save a full image of system partition before any experiments.

Then I completely tangled and can not understand what happened on Your OS.
I can not understand, whether you have setup something or just going to?
If you have installed, what you installed? Installed on what OS (including language
and service pack). And main thing that you want to get in the end?
...
Also, giving disparate information, we get a contradictory picture.

@KM2005

BSOD? or just error (Kernel32.DLL / as in video example)?
/* have you seen video? */

If just kernel32 error, http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?19,143253,143901#msg-143901
(and below).

If you do not trust third-party packages, you always can install original MS fixes
(fixes and their numbers are given in message on link).

@KM2005

I tested all proposed fixes before offering to install them (I can record a detailed video with demonstration of installation). However, you can uninstall this update and system must be return to 'original' state.

Install checkbox in 'add or remove programs' applet, currently installed programs and updates (show updates).

Or you can go to the Windows folder (subject to showing hidden and system folders and files) there should be a directory starting with the symbol "$". In my system this $hf_mig$ (sometimes more than one). Inside should be a folder with update number (this is a backup of original files as SP2*** folder).

Still, once again, recommend to save a full image of system partition before any action.

--
P/S: I hope you have installed hotfix on English system?
Be sure to try to start system in safe mode.

@hermes,
'add or remove programs' shows lKB936235-v2 installed, and KB944340 which I installed too.

$hf_mig$ doesn't show reference to the updates; but, the updates show at the next level above the $hf_mig$ folder.

The updates are installed on English version of Windows XP.

In safe mode, clicking kmeleon.exe and Windows crashed at 7 seconds, counted how long kmeleon tries to start.

for BSoD in old SP of XP, it is kind of kernel(NTOSKRNL) and SXS module problem. If you can't update to SP3, you may try to use my win2000 build of KM74G instead.

The problem of functioning on XP SP2 for bilds since 2018-01-21 was noticed.
Discussed here: http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?19,148500,148844#msg-148844

...

Expanded version of a patch for start KM bilds after 2018-01-13 on XP SP2. Needlessly to establish SP3 or other updates of OS. For work with KM of rather original SP2 of 2004.

Complete set, English version of files, can be applied on any OS language:

The complete set can be established in anyway, contains all necessary files.

Facilitated set, if you already used primary patch from the first post or established updates of M$ mentioned above on a subject which change a kernel. Here only the additional file. This installation is recommended for those at whom the system does not swear on lack of functions in KERNEL32.DLL, and at once drops out in BSOD.
