Yup, Mozilla now goes for the Apple JavaScript engine as the one they are now using is outdated and for whatever reason, they can't or won't update it.

What will happen to K-Meleon?

Chrismt,

Nothing as KM uses both Gecko and JavaScript from Mozilla. The bigger problem for KM has been SQLite and Dorian has figured out how to do that with stub files and using the older Wallet and text-based files for things like bookmarks, passwords, cookies, etc. (Most of the technical explanations are beyond my skills.)
