Now that KM0.7 is here and is wonderful, I was thinking what the future holds for KM?

Any words from the devs?

I think in the very least, when Mozilla/Gecko 1.2 final is released, there should be an incremental release of K-Meleon based on that code, soas to move 0.7 away from the Mozilla 1.2 beta code. Maybe 0.75 would suffice there.

As for new features, well we'll just have to wait and see.

Speaking of the devil - Mozilla 1.2 was officially announced just an hour or so ago: http://www.mozilla.org/releases/

Actually, releasing a new K-Mel based on 1.2 final doesn't really seem like a good option.
Even mozilla people is wondering how it got to be so screwed up and how to fix it before a 1.3 arrives

http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=182500

If anything a 1.3 version should be used.
But I'm quite confident K-Mel will work just fine with 1.2beta (?) for at least 6 months smiling smiley

It seems that Mozilla people are sweeping the problem under the rug. Latest bugzilla report says there will not be a mozilla 1.2.1 version, that they will stick with mozilla 1.2, EVEN though there will be a bugfix version on the FTP site probably Monday.

I can smell the confusion already. <sigh>

Nope, there will be 1.2.1 but 1.2 version will not be withdrawn (links and files will not be removed), it'll stay there as well. This is debatable but I tend to agree with mozdevs, you don't need to rewrite the history, sh*t happens, fix it and live on.

I noticed there are a few people in favour of having a splash screen on K-Meleon, so to appease these people in the meantime, there is a small program you can download and use on K-Meleon called Splasher. This is the description of the program from the author:

"Add a splash screen to a program
Would you like to display a splash screen (image) on startup of your program? Using Splasher you can change almost every Win32 executable to show a splash screen centered on the screen for a specified duration. After that, the program itself will be run. ASM source code included."

And here is the download link for Splasher:

Hope it helps :-)

Splash screen? Heck, I think it's great that KM *doesn't* have one. Why would anyone want something that *slows down* the launch of a program?

I thought splash screens were invented by corporate developers who wanted to insure that people saw their copyright notices. I find them annoying and turn them off whenever possible. Unfortunately, I don't know how to junk them entirely, so they still take up disk space.

Splash screens remind me of those useless flying paper "I'm copying your file now" widgets in Windows. I can't believe that Billy actually paid somebody to write that code.

Yup. I saw that they went with Moz 1.2.1. There was discussion in BugZilla to the effect of not doing that, but they bit the bullet, it seems. <g>

As for the new bugs with Palm and Email, perhaps a v1.2.2 is in the works or perhaps attention has moved on toe v1.3 alpha.
