Hi, hope I am right here and someone can help me. I am using a self deployed KM 1.1.4 for a presentation CD showing the inventory of the cd. As the CD also contains videos I packed the new verison of vlc 2.3.1 with the vlc web player on it. However playing these embedded mpg/mp4 Video cause an error and kill the KM. The older version 1.1.5 of vlc (only with an activx player) worked fine. I even tryed the latest release of KM, but the same problem as mentioned. When I deinstall the new vlc all videos in KM work fine again (opened in a separate player for e.g. wmp). Is there an option to deaktivate the use of the vlc web plugin by configuration in case a use has already installed it? Many thanks in advance.

If the older player has a Mozilla plugin (npvlc.dll & npvlc.dll.manifest) that works also with with newer player versions? You would place that into the folder ./K-Meleon/plugins.

Or You use a npmozax.dll (Mozilla ActiveX control and plugin support) in that location. There is one that is compartible with Your K-Meleon version. That should let the folks use activeX controls of programs IMHO also e.g. of WinMedia player.

Or You use straight away the Windows Media player plugin for Firefox & K-Meleon from e.g. the K-Meleon Extensions page. And You place that in K-Meleon/plugins. Then Windows Media Player should handle the videos. And WMP is available on almost all Windows systems.


The rational behind this procedure is that plugins that are in that specific folder/location get precedence over all other plugins that are installed on the system and can handle that specific Mime Type.

Next thing You can try is K-Meleon 1.5.4 if it is available in Your language.

It has an install setting that creates a portable version (or manually place profile.ini into the browser folder). The portable version has the Profiles folder in the K-Meleon folder and should AFAIK be able to run on CD if the folder is there also.

Maybe that will get along with the newer VLC plugin.

erste einmal danke für die promte Hilfe und die vielen genannten Optionen. Ich habe nun alle Variationen durchprobiert, leider ohne Erfolg. Gibt es keine Möglichkeit, das Web Plugin für die MIME mpg und mp4 generll über die conig zu deaktivieren?

Wenn ich den VLC deinstinstalliere, lassen sich Videos ganz normal im WMP öffnen.

Die diversen Versionen von npvlc bzw. ms-kmwmp3 brigen den KM zwar nicht mehr zum Absturz, bleiben bei Abspielen der Videos aber hängen oder starten erst gar nicht :-(

Hilfe ist es nur, wenn es geht. Es wäre zu schön einfach gewesen, wenn es durch Platzieren des Plugings in CD ./k-meleon/plugins gegangen wäre.

Hast du auch versucht, ob 1.5.4 auf CD läuft?

Hast du es schon mit dem Mimetypes Editor versucht?
Deine Version benutzt den noch. Damit kann man festlegen, welche App was macht.

Für ein paar Plugins kann man angeben, dass erst ab Version nnn genommen wird. Ich erinnere aber nicht mehr genau, wie das ging. Glaube in about:config.
Man kann es bei Mozilla.org googeln.

Guck auch mal in Profile/ pluginreg.dat. Da du die auf CD brennen wirst, kann sie nicht neu geschrieben werden. Dadurch kannst du versuchen, es dort fest zu zurren.

Du könntest die Exe, die es abspielt auf CD packen. Du kannst mp4 dieser bestimmten Exe zuweisen.

wow, das Editieren der MIME-Types hat's gebracht - 1000 Dank (auch für die bereitgestellte Datei)!
K-Meleo 1.5.4 waere theoretisch auch auf der CD gelaufen, aber ich habe es jetzt erst einmal bei der 1.1.4 belassen, da ich sonst sehr viel haette anpassen muessen.
Die weiteren Optionen pruefe ich bei Bedarf im naechsten Projekt, dann vielleicht auch gleich mit der neuen 74 :-) woher kommt eigentlich der Versionssprung? Schoen aber, dass es weiter geht. Viel Spaß Euch dabei...
