Making .jar files for extensions - wtf???

What utility works for making .zip (.jar) files....I used to use an annoying zipper from Avatarsoft and I replace that with Noah, which is a close cousin to 7zip. Neither of these programs seems to be able to build a zip file that mozilla can understand. If I take an old, working .jar file, unzip it to flat regular folders, then rezip it with either Noah or 7zip, the new .jar can't be read. Kmeleon can't locate the files in the jar!

I must be using incorrect parameters or what ???

Any ideas or info would be appreciated.

Try the option "no compression" (or similar) in 7z?

You are not alone. Sometimes 7zip simply does not work. sad smiley

I am sure from my own experience that 7zip normal zip compression and save as zip without compression work for jars up to GRE 1.9.2.

I read that Mozilla spend some work altering the zip format for Firefox 4.
It makes that the info about the way it is zipped is at the start of the archive.
If I remember rightly WinRar can handle these (7zip fails).

I found the problem, the old zipper did not include the outermost folder in the zipped directory, the newer ones do. So the paths within the zip file changed...

Thanks for speedy help, what I needed was to go cook dinner, eat and play with the cat as usual.

1.6 compatible microrss in a few days...

I also notice that you need to use Deflate compression method, rather than Bzip in the zip archive.

Guenter,

Why would Mozilla change the zip format for FireFox 4?
