I was chasing a chkdsk error, but Windows Logs Application showed me 17 SideBySide errors:

If you need further info about my box/OS, let me know. I do suspect most of it happened as I was trying to get rvjmimedit-km74 to work, but I have no evidence.

OK, solved it. Well, sort of. I'm afraid the devs have to do the fix.

See http://www.mazecomputer.com/sxs/help/whatis.htm for a description; also https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/event-id-33-and-80-sidebyside-errors/9ad6156c-f77c-4b7d-a991-7db209947c5b for tracing solutions and a mention of

Microsoft Visual C++ version not being backward compatible with the application that failed
; and http://www.eventid.net/display-eventid-80-source-SideBySide-eventno-10679-phase-1.htm for more info.

At some stage later today/this evening I'll run the SxsTrace Trace -logfileconfused smileyxsTrace.etl which should be on this machine.

Gotta run--work calls tongue sticking out smiley

Well, one of the mysteries of Windows again. K-Meleon.exe is a 32 bit not a 64 bit application. But maybe a dev reads something else or something more out of this tea cup. smiling smiley

rvjmimedit

K-Meleon version 0.6 K. Updated CSS and code to play with 74/esr24. 12th.10.2014, guenter. To do. Preview existing MIMEtypes, edit them (will work when they are shown) and change ID and name of addon to someting like MIMETypeeditor@kmeleon.org. Then alter credits from my name to another/whoever does it. I will fix the German translation if we ever get that far.

That was in reach for people like me that can only do html. smiling smiley

Now You need someone with sound JS knowledge that can fix that the items do not show and a better working JS Console2 that shows why that feature does not work.

And I need someone that tells me how I ever used this editor. I have forgotten it. :O

Hi guenter -

Strike out anything I said about SideBySide and rvjmimedit-km74: after a refreshing day spent stopping big trucks (read: 18-wheelers) by standing in front of them, I realise the only connection to rvjmimedit-km74 is that I was stopping and restarting K-Meleon many times... grinning smiley

And the dead-give-away is in the Error description:
Quote

Error in manifest or policy file "" on line .
which matches perfectly with the sources I referenced.

With different software (EventID.Net is pointing at Adobe) I would be heaping plenty of raspberries (dunno what youse call it in German, but in English you stick your tongue out and blow past it tongue sticking out smiley) at the devs. But I understand our devs are overworked, underpaid and totally deserving of our sympathy.

The fact is that Windows is enormously complicated, and browsers only marginally less so. I'm sure that somebody will soon figure out which manifest needs a rewrite, and that's one less problem.

Thanks for the attachments, I'll have a play, and I think I may have worked out how to populate MimeType.rdf. The weekend is looking good so far grinning smiley

Gordon.

Usable MIMETypes Editor (?)
Posted by: guenter

AFAIR I have attached a mimetypes.rdf in the other forum. It is fairly populated. Some versions ago K-Meleons came with such by default. That is where it is from.

Currently we are better off with the old MIMETypes editors and 1.5.4 or 1.6 because there we can see what we are doing. But maybe we find a way to debug this and then we would have a addon that nobody has anymore and be able to write new mimetypes.rdfs.

After that /then/ You can tell me how it works.smiling smiley

p.s. I installed it in FirefoxESR 24 plus console2.

Error: TypeError: myhPrefWindow.pref is null
SourceFile: chrome://rvjmimeedit/content/pref/nsPrefWindow.js
line: 127

So it is as assumed. JS console has problems.
And the error is above my knowledge to fix. Possibly wrong.

See comment and attachment.

Update Release Notes
Version 0.6.1 K - 13 October 2014, Preview existing MIMETypes fixed.
Removed loked state that was only used when the code that drives the addon was used to work with browser prefs.

It is nevertheless a cludgy hack based on the idea that the code was multy purpose and loked state is not used anymore. No warranties that this addon and code works on another PC than mine.

Unpack and place in ./K-Meleon/Macros. Submenu in Help.

The rest goes unpacked to an extension location.

I've copied this SideBySide error to "Bugs", complete with a SxsTrace log. It really is something that should be attended to.

Gordon.
