[solved] K-meleon repack, video doesn't work.

Hi,

I decided to update a 10month old re-pack. I re-downloaded the k-meleon browser, portable install, opened it, made the needed changes in the options, closed the browser and packed it into an NSIS installer package.

Half an hour before the re-pack, 100% of youtube videos worked without hitch. Then I repacked. Now only some videos work ... HMTL5 outdated browser notification appears on some videos. Its unlikely youtube changed within that half hour, so I'm left to believe that an extension, present in old re-pack, is missing in current re-pack. Sadly, the old re-pack/installer was over-written.

Any ideas where I went wrong?

I donate alot to this project because it enshrines everything I love about open source software on computers, regardless of OS. We all realise that computers at their base are essentially the same and OS (read: libtards with a job in MS HQ) inhibit cross compatibility. In any case K-meleon enabled me to continue using my favourite OS , windows XP.

@giro1991

Check this pref:

media.webm.enabled
media.mediasource.webm.enabled
media.windows-media-foundation.enabled

And other media. prefs in about:config. Try change user-agent to current FF.

P/S: strongly recommended try current KM Goanna (as example, latest on today).

New regular/weekly KM-Goanna release:
https://o.rthost.win/kmeleon/KM-Goanna-20180825.7z

Changelog:

Out-of-tree changes:
* update Goanna3 to git 2ab657cef...84be542d0:
- add and enable MessageChannel API pref, as required by recaptcha (8e1e41eed)
- ported bug1330667 (84be542d0)

* Notice: the changelog above may not always applicable to XULRunner code which K-Meleon uses.

KM Goanna is completely portable application (by default) and you can not fear for interception of old settings (or to make experiments without being afraid to spoil the basic set).

Check address: youtube.com/html5 on KM Goanna and you will be pleasantly surprised smiling smiley.

Hmmm

It would appear KM-Goanna portable install did indeed form the basis for the previous NSIS package. In fact, IIRC, I was introduced to this browser on the XP sub-forum on MSFN.org - un aware of the difference, It would appear that I have confused KM-Goanna and k-meleon - easy to do, considering k-meleon is the version promoted on the projects homepage.

I'm puzzled why the 75.1 version on the homepage doesn't support HTML5 out of the box, when a more obscure verison, KM-Goanna, does... care to enlighten?

Thanks again hermes. Pleased with this repack. Settings now akin to my 'old' firefox experience are ready to go upon installation!

KM 75.1 is three-years-old build. Goanna-based is the newest version of KM. Nothing strange.

yes, okay, but those less code savy, will naturally click / try the 'Latest Stable Release' before any other version, irrespective of date of release, on the Home page.

Stable usually takes priority in my mind anyway.

Perhaps something to look at winking smiley

thanks for the assistance

Even code savy people would most probably go for a stable release, simply because it's best practice to do so.
The message on the main site is somehow incomplete and confusing. One has to read this forum to get the full picture.

Till K-Meleon 76 RC2 the browser was based on Firefox 38 (Gecko engine).
After years of agony the project got revived by a new developer.
The old shell is now powered by the Goanna engine (Pale Moon 27).
It's labeled as developement release.

To add insult to injury, there is no K-Meleon 77 as suggested on the main page.
IMHO it wouldn't even make sense to label now a browser powered by an outdated engine (Goanna 3.4.1/Pale Moon 27) as a new K-Meleon release.

Nevertheless the K-Meleon 76 developement release is very stable, lightweight and as things are now, maintained with security patches.
